Since you can use Kathleen's hair to date when videos are shot, this video was shot before Doom Booties was memed. True they could've edited the credits, but that has the foul stench of extra effort, so I can't hold the void of Doom Booties against them.

You will not dull my complaining with such trivial matters as "Facts" and "Logic".

...also, "The Void of Doom Booties" is my German Electro-Punk band.

Funny, "The Void of Doom Booties" is the title of the post-apocalyptic fembot porn movie I'm shooting.

I was amused. Entertained. And not alienated for not being able to be in a position to play Magic. Success! I eagerly await more.

I'm betting because this is actually sponsored by Wizards of the Coast, so having corporate logos like Starbucks is generally a no no from their point of view.

Ding! Correct.

That... was actually a problem for us because we hadn't considered that :(

Yay! Do I get a point?

Yeah I've run into that problem before and you see it a lot on reality TV shows and whatnot. If Pepsi is paying for you to make entertainment for them, it is effectively "marketing" to them, which means no free marketing for other non-affiliated (or even sometimes affiliated if they use a bidding system) companies.

Oh! Another question.

So does this take place in the Commodore Hustle universe or is it its own universe?

So, after rewatching It's Magic, I realized something. Paul is wearing the same shirt and jacket in that video as he is in the beginning of this one. Coincidence? (Probably)

Such as there is a persistant cH universe, this video takes place in it.

I'm guessing since it's filed under cHustle, it takes place in the same universe.

EDIT: Derp, confirmed by Graham.

Oh, the two smartphones are both Android. I only know of one apple product amongst the lot of us... an ipod shuffle. (At least I think it's a shuffle... that lil' 1x1 inch thing.)

My method for booster choice- convicne my friend Dez to start buying boosters with cards I want in them. Another one of us was looking for a Venser and an Elspeth Knight-Errant. Dez, looking for other cards, pulled both within the same week. The Elspeth was foil, too.

Of course, I mostly buy singles. Cuz I'm just lazy that way.

okay this is a sign that I've played to much magic. Alex's poison deck seems about 20 cards to big (yes I'm counting the added size of the sleeves). was that a real deck or just a bunch of sleeved cards?

Is there such a thing as 20 cards too big?

It was Alex's Highlander deck, so...

Maybe he was running a Highlander poison deck? That's only a terrible, terrible idea, right?

Back in, oh, 1999 or so, I played Magic online, unoffically of course. We'd gather in IRC chat rooms and used Apprentice to play constructed, or NetDraft for drafts (Which would crash if someone disconnected even for a second, so much gnashing of teeth and tearing of clothes were had...those were the days of modems and parents picking up phones while online.) Granted, I played during the Urza's block, which is known to be one of the most broken periods of M:tG history. After Urza's was Masques block. Now, I liked Masques. I'm a big fan of White Weenie / Angel Decks, and hte Solders in Masques were right up my alley.

But one day on the IRC during one of the daily tournaments, someone submitted a 250 card deck. And won, went 6-0. Dude totally out metaed everyone that day, and it was based around Crumbling Sanctuary

I forget the (looooong) deck list, and it pisses me off because I have a thing for thinking outside the box. And anything that throws the "60 cards is best" rule in people's faces is WAY outside the box.

I think Graham missed the obvious response to Paul's solution to booster pack selection. I was expecting him to ask how Paul then selected which box would be best to buy.

Great video, left me wanting to see more.

but at the end he said he added a second batterskull (which I personaly wouldn't put in a poison deck but thats a whole other point)

I got a Iphone for two reasons and two reasons only.

1. My bank app was at the time only available on Iphone.(5 weeks later it was released for 3 other platforms)
2. I had run out my old two year contract and I was able to get a Iphone 3gs for free because the 4 and the 4 xyz and the 4 thc... had already been released and they couldnt sell them anymore ;)

They actually offered me a refurbish 3GS that would have given me a $20 credit on my account but I didnt want to risk it cause it had no warranty.

I don't play a lot of Magic and I thought it looked too thick, but I assumed that was just because I was used to Limited formats.

I have a plan for a deck. 56 Badlands, 4 BITN, it cant fail! unless you dont draw all 4 BITN a in the first hand, then it cant win.

Whoa, this was seriously funny, I really enjoyed it!

Also, if this makes me go back to MTG, I will blame you when I live in the street with just a refrigerator box filled with cards.

Try the online version, it's self-limiting, in that once you sell your computer for ramen, you can't get any more cards.

Now I'm curious what they were saying during the "What Paul hears" bit. Any lip-readers in the thread?

I really only suggest buying into Magic The Gathering Online, if your play style is okay with speed play, and you are capable of handling a not-that-great UI that needs you to quickly hit certain keys and make multiple snap decisions.

There is no such thing as a draw in MTGO, the game runs on a 'chess clock' system with the player who times out conceding the entire match. Each player gets a 25 minute clock that runs every time you have control of what's going on. (ie, when you have 'priority', or when you have to make any kind of choice.)

Theoretically, this is 'the same amount of time' as official real world matches. But in practice it's a lot less because you're not prompted to step through everything in a real match, so have a lot less time because every mouse click and button press adds up over a match. And of course, the difference between a draw because of time, and a loss because of time, is big.

The only way to benefit from a slower "Keep you occupied till I get my win condition" deck in MTGO, is if you can still maintain a time advantage by being 100% efficient in using the user interface.

On the other hand, the "Duels of the Planewalkers" series of PC/Console games will give you a lot of the fun of magic. But don't have the deck construction or drafting parts of the game.

Maybe it'll be in one of the behind the scenes videos (hopefully?). I bet it has nothing to do with MtG and more to do with making fun of people attempting to lip read them. :D
