FRIDAY NIGHTS: In Command

Postby Graham » 08 Mar 2012, 15:38

When you get seven people in for a game of Commander, it's not going to end quickly.

We play Commander a lot, but these are not our actual decks.
Kathleen does have a vampire deck called "Bury, Suck, Kill" though.

Strangely, I found this super entertaining. Still didn't understand any of it, but the interactions were great!

I LOVED Paul’s face and tone when he goes “that’s probably wise”

Is it just the way the camera focusing is set up or is the Star Trek picture blurred for a particular reason?

Yes! If they had some sort of easy setup (or pre-setup) methods, I think LRR has struck product gold here!

Also, loved the posters.

I really need to get into commander. I had some friends who played but I never tried it myself and now I don't see them as much. Also since I learned how to play magic almost 15 years ago I build decks largely based on intuition. I just have a general sense of how much land, creatures, and removal a particular deck will need but with commander I don't. On one hand that makes it interesting, but it also makes it harder to get started, although if I still had a group to play it with I would probably just get one of the pre-con ones to give me a feel of it.

And why would you ever play dark Tutelage in commander?

I'm in this camp. Watching these videos is like watching a foreign film: I don't understand a word of the script, but I can pick out what's going on and it's still entertaining.
It's not epic unless it's dactylic hexameter.

I very much enjoyed this one!

But yeah. Dammit, Matt. I've PLAYED Ride of the Valkyries. Bluh.

Also, "She has a trustworthy face." "I don't trust her." "That's probably wise." I hear this a lot, strangely... >.>

I was going to ask that question since not only the Star Trek Next Generations poster was blurred also the Apple Logo on Kathleen's Macbook.

I then figured it out near the end of the credits then was cemented with the last Copyright notice.

Friday nights has been given the green light by Magic The Gathering company Wizard to used and to promote MTG. This means that since it is a promotional video for WTG it is now advertising. Thusly you cant use copyright images and logos in the video without the express permission of the owner.

LRR even if they did this would be prompted with "no" and or "give us x amount of $ EACH time you use it. We will have someone verify this. So please send the recordings afterwards so we may check."

Its easier to dodge the bullet and go BLUR!

Unless LRR starts having contracts singed for all videos to one company or such then they shall continue not blurring unless needing too.

Entertaining as usual, but I really don't think I would ever like plying Magic. It seems like nobody gets to defend themselves and that whatever someone does, someone else just undoes. I'm sure I just don't get it, but it looks incredibly frustrating to play. The skit was still funny though!

Very much like the concept of the flipping table... they should probably put those in Vegas as a way to let people vent and stay in the casino to spend more money.

I'm also reminded of riding along with someone to a party where Risk was broke out, being one of the first to lose and going "Whelp... I guess I go find a corner and attempt to entertain myself for the next few hours"

Akyho is pretty much dead on.
We didn't know about WotC's legal restrictions before we shot, so we had to resort to blurring. Shame.

For next time, I recommend going the Top Gear route of creating ridiculous fake brands/logos/posters where appropriate.

It's not really that futile a game, but the most memorable interactions are always around or about some sort of futility.

Does anyone play a Bump in the night deck with a psychopez commander?

Psychopez: You may have as many bump in the nights in your hand as you desire, disregard the 4 of any card rule.

Oddly enough, I just got done with a 6 player EDH game! I won with Mayael the Anima against Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre; Animar, Soul of Elements; Kemba, Kha Regent; Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur; and my own Torsten von Ursus enchantment deck I lent a friend. Shenanigans were had, though I had to hardcast way too many creatures for my liking.
