DraftCast 1 - Take Your Stuff

Postby Graham » 08 Aug 2013, 18:44

An experiment, Graham casts someone else's draft. Only two rounds, owing to vagaries of MTGO, but more to come!

Great idea, Graham. I loved it, but dude...

WHY is this not called Mystery Draft Theatre?

So I have to wonder, is this also partially to get your announcing persona ready for the community cup?

Great job BTW, I don't think you went too fast but frankly I only managed to understand what you were saying from watching your streams and MTGO Academy drafts all the time

I have to second "Mystery Draft Theatre" as the name.

It would be nice if the replay could slow down. You were going at a find speed, but you kept needing to stop the replay, not to elaborate on a complicated state, but just to keep it from getting ahead when you had more than two words to say on something.

I really like the idea, but this one didnt seem that interesting of a game.

Im sure as you do more they will get better because again, I think the concept is great and with fan contributions it could get even better because we will sort of filter stuff for you so its not "he plays a 2/2, she plays a 3/3, he swings with the 2/2 probably has a trick, she swings with the three three. he plays a 2/3 flyer, she kills it... and she wins in turn 12.

Yeah, I WAS recording one with a sweet game, but then it failed and I had to redo from start.

I like the idea, but like Hosk said a more interesting game would have been better. Still entertaining to watch and short enough to watch on break at work! So added bonus there!

It's an interesting idea, and something I would watch more of.

A couple of notes, however.

1-It's interesting (and enjoyable for us MtG addicts), but it's not funny. So I'm wondering if it's really a good idea to have that directly on the front page. That could potentially be a turn off for new viewers. (To a lesser extent, that's also true of stuff like Strip Search.)

I don't think this is a major issue yet, just something that you guys should spend some time considering at some point.

2-M14 is kind of an horrible format to study in depth. I'm wondering if RTR block wouldn't be more interesting. That's purely from a viewer perspective though.

I'll jump on the "Mystery Draft Theater" bandwagon.

Obviously this was fairly glitchy as the first video of its kind but you still sounded very disoriented. I can't say how much you prepared but I think things would run smoother (and frankly be a bit more watchable) if you either had somebody else casting with you or maybe prepared more notes on the games.

Also, as has been mentioned with the speed, if things would run a bit slower that would be great but clearly the client is only so helpful in that regard.

I made a forum account specifically to give feedback for this video. I'd love to see more!

The random sound effects at the beginning of round 2 game 2 were HI-larious.

oh no! I had a sealed event which would have been great but I forgot to write down the numbers and now only three of the 7 games are listed!

Match one I lost with my opponent having 3 seconds on the clock because I screwed up and missed an extort trigger.

Match two I got beat by the stupid azorious 5 counter win thing, bounced it game one. Killed it game two and both times he got it back and up to 5 :(

Match three game one we did a total of 29 extort damage to each other.

You could watch my M14 combo draft. Xathrid Necromancer, and 2 Corpse Hauler, cycling. That was hella fun.

This is really not a good set for a video, I got mana screwed, into a bye ,into perfect mana.

The reason I post it is, is this image a good format for you for the info you need Graham?

Just about, yeah!

When we put out a real call, I'd love them transcribed into an email, with a little description of WHY a given match or game is relevant.

But yes, that's the info!

I like it. Not very deep or anything, but actually really nice to watch.
Too bad we didn´t get to see the finals though.

Looking forward to seeing more of these.

I enjoyed it but please for future videos could you turn the mouse click sound off... I found it distracting.

Overall though I found it a neat idea

It's not a sound effect, that... was my mouse :?

But I'll try to keep it away from the mic next time :)

Honestly, I never even heard those mouse clicks. Probably my brain filtering it out?

I heartily endorse this experiment. On the one hand it pales in comparison to G-Drafts, Or Streams, or Friday Nights, or Academy videos. On the other, it lets me enjoy another kind of magic video and there are never too many of those.

Also, if they are LRR-Fans' videos, then it becomes an awesome community tool.

EDIT -- Whoa, I have only 2 posts, I am such a lurker.

Really cool idea and also good to learn allots of strategy that are running on draft at MTGO.
