Re: A Swiftly Tilting Cameron
I'm catching up on Cam's stream and I just watched Wednesday's. I see exactly where Cam went wrong on that last mission. At the end, he says "I swore we got both Chrysalids." I saw what he was looking at, and the 2 "6 damage" notifications were actually 1 Chrysalid and the civilian.

Re: A Swiftly Tilting Cameron
Oh, I'm not saying he's just idly pursuing the chaos without reason. It's just that the look on his face that seems to dominate the rest of any battle subsequent to a 'pardonfuck moment' (I am so dropping that phrase into general conversation) makes part of me want to go and give him a hug
"Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not it after all."
Re: A Swiftly Tilting Cameron
Cameron, please make more panicked faces while saluting the camera when a plan goes awry. It fills me with glee to know that somewhere, somehow, pixels are being disintegrated.

There's actually a mod that does that with Facebook friends. Atleast for Enemy Unknown
I found the .txt with all the soldier names that can be randomly generated at
C:\Users\<USER NAME>\Documents\my games\XCOM - Enemy Within\XComGame\Config\XComNameList.txt
Though it's format is strange, but LRR spreadsheets would probably get into it's format. Ill put in an example.
Code: Select all
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Shane
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Rob
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Brad
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Cameron
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Chris
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Neal
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Jordan
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Charlie
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Jeff
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Caleb
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Eric
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Samuel
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Cory
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Neil
m_arrAmMFirstNames=Shaun
It looks like.. I don't know yet. I'm sure people can figure out some of the formats. Maybe some one could make a SVN that Cam just updates every time before he starts? The issue is it selects it at random so it won't guarantee Subscribing==Seeing your name. Though a compromise is give nicknames as well where each time a soldier gets promoted to Sargent(I believe) Cam can just do down the list. SPREADSHEET PEOPLE. WORK HARDER(And take a break cause you guys do so much cool work for free)
I would look over the mod on the nexus. I'll get back to it.
Hmph. It doesn't look like it exists anymore. Shame.

Re: A Swiftly Tilting Cameron
The format seems to be 'm_arr<two-letter country code><Gender for first name>FirstNames.' Gender isn't a factor for last names. So 'm_arrAbFFirstname="Lilly"' would put in a female name for Lilly for Arabian soldiers. Realistically, this would make the need to put first names in obsolete if that's all people cared about (including having to decide a nationality first). But last names seem to be where the problem comes in. That seems to be decided separately, so you can't just tie two names together. I think a mod might be able to fix that though. I personally think the first name thing is a fine option for those who don't care. Or offering the choice of a first name or a last name, or both.

Re: A Swiftly Tilting Cameron
I am happy to continue playing XCOM until I have completed it on Impossible / Iron Man.
After that, I'd like to play Alpha Centauri, or Civilization V, or maybe Deus Ex: Human Revolution as a palette cleanser until Alien: Isolation launches.
Then ... then there will be Space Hulk.

We will continue to play Space Hulk until actual Space Hulks launch.
That is all.

I don't need to ready anything about Space Hulk. All I needed to hear is that it is called Space Hulk. It will be glorious.

AC, Civ V, or even Civ IV are good choices.

Is this because you'd played the original tabletop game?
Or the first computer game?
Or even the second computer game?
Or just literally the name? Because if the latter, it might NOT be the sort of 'glorious' you're thinking of.

I'd love to see Civilization 5 or Human Revolution, personally. Both would be a lot of fun to watch.

Re: A Swiftly Tilting Cameron
I'd be interested to see Civ, purely because I never understood how you were supposed to take anyone else's cities in that game. Alpha Centauri looked interesting when you played it, although I didn't really understand all its mechanics. Human Revolution I've heard lots of nice things about, but have only a vague idea of what it actually is.

Re: A Swiftly Tilting Cameron
I will enjoy watching Alpha Centauri. It's really one of the greatest games of the type ever made, even now. Having the time to go through and explain the little intricacies of it will make it a lot easier for non-players to follow along too.
Of course, if you want to beat XCom on impossible/ironman first, we'll be waiting until November. I'm also fine with that.

When the upkeep takes longer than the main phase, I know I've done my job well.

Re: A Swiftly Tilting Cameron
For Civ I through Civ IV, essentially, you keep beating up their stationed units until there's none left, then move a land unit in for the capture. If the city has 1 population, it ends up destroyed. If it has 2 or more, the population decreases by 1 and you have the option of capturing or destroying it.My pseudonym is Ix wrote:I'd be interested to see Civ, purely because I never understood how you were supposed to take anyone else's cities in that game.
For Civ V, it's very similar, except you can only have 1 unit stationed in the city, and the city can defend itself on its own as well, now.

It was the 'keep beating up stationed units' part that did me in: almost impossible to overcome the defensive bonuses half the time, so to take over a city required about twenty times as many troops as they had. From my Civ IV experiences, anyway.
On an unrelated note, how does one get added to the Cameron Fodder spreadsheet?

You can make it more reasonable by bringing a TONNE of siege units, such as trebuchets, artillery, etc. Attack with them first to weaken the city and its defenders. Maybe even do this for 2-3 turns, then go in with your other units. Takes a while, but it is perfectly do-able.

They need to code in Detritus' 'Piecemaker'. Come to think of it, that might help Cam out in XCOM too.

Isn't the MEC Trooper's "Collateral Damage" ability basically that?

Re: A Swiftly Tilting Cameron
Can anyone verify whether I coined "Cameron Fodder"? The spreadsheet was renamed at some point after I brought it up in chat, but it's also possible somebody had the idea first.
I'd like to be able to say I coined it.
