Video Games with Video James
James is a man of many skills, and one that he plans to master is Minecraft. He’s going to play other games too but… he’s really into Minecraft, you guys. He’s even going to get the other LRR crew to play with him on a special server, and you can join in too!

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the stream.
I felt like James had a good balance of entertainment and chat interaction. I felt like I was one of James' bestest best buddies.

Re: Video Games with Video James
I may have to end up taking down the LRRcraft server due to too much James. The more he pimps out the server, the more people come in. The more people come in, the more chances for someone with an absolute trash connection to come in. Everyone with a trash connection causes server lag for everyone, and for some reason it doesn't stop when they log off, so the effect is cumulative with every log-on.
I have no idea what to do about this, since I've had 30-odd people join in this past week alone. (Compare that to about 70 in the past year prior to LRL.) I'm guessing the server just can't take it and is overtaxed.

Re: Video Games with Video James
Is there anything we can do to set up a more powerful server? Are there places that have super good connections and computers that you can hire to put the server there? I'd pitch in some coin for doing that if this is just destroying you.
I honestly have no idea how the Minecraft Client-Server connect works or is optimized so I have no constructive suggestions other than my standard "lets throw money at it and hope that fixes all the problems"

Re: Video Games with Video James
Well, I can try moving the server location to either Paris or Luxembourg, instead of Baltimore, if that helps. That will depend on where people are connecting from, though. Australians, I doubt it would matter. It would get better for Europeans, and worse for North and South Americans.
Anything outside the company I work for, though, will cost much, much more, since I wouldn't get a discount there. Also, I'm essentially right next to the server, if I leave it in Baltimore.
Also, I think the key problem is MineCraft 1.7 and its connection issues, due to the changed Net coding. Since that's not an issue I have control over, I doubt changing server location will make much of a difference if the problem is that. If the problem is the Net coding of MineCraft, no amount of switching locations or beefing up the server will do anything.

OK, James, if you're interested...
The original Mt. St. James is at 864, 73, -175
So, it's about 300 plus x and 300 minus z from your new place.

Server's hopefully getting fixed up today, so it's online, but you can't log in currently. Is this the perfect time to say that the lights are on, but nobody's home?Graham wrote:Btw all, we're talking to Memo about keeping the lights on at LRRcraft.

I can review footage to re-find the second one, if needed, and the first one already has coordinates posted.

Re: Video Games with Video James
This may be a silly question, does anyone know what the seed is that James has been using? I wouldn't mind having a tromp around in familiar territory.

I think he mentioned it last week or the week before, so it should be in the archives.

It's not really that tall. Maybe it should be Graham Hill?

Re: Video Games with Video James
Memo has been doing a fantastic job with the lrrcraft server, and james probably has the best stream going right now. Though I'm trying to watch all the streams. Alex and Cam have been a blast to watch as well. House of Stark seems to be the only one I can't get to in on because of work on friday morning and it coming after the magic stream which usually ends to close to my bed time. dang responsibilities.

James, it would seem your sword is fire enchanted. When an Enderman catches fire, it becomes neutral and teleports away. That's why the enderman ran away yesterday.

Hey new slime block / piston interactions in the latest snapshot. You can build a trampoline-style elevator now, which looked really fun to use. The demo had the guy up a hundred feet in a couple of seconds, and he was able to jump straight down onto a slime block from that height too, so there's that.
