I understand that other people seem to like Mafia as a game, but for the life of me I can't understand why.

In the interests of not turning this into a YouTube comments thread, I'll ask first- would you be interested in hearing an explanation? I don't mean in the sense of 'persuade phlip he should like the thing' because we both know that's bull, but purely for the purposes of academic interest.

I for one always find it interesting to pick apart how other people work

Oh man, I loved Two Rooms and a Boom. But yeah, it's not for everyone.

So apparently there's a new edition of Warhammer Quest (Silver Tower) coming out on the 21'st?

That's... out of bloody nowhere.

A few recommendations for AFK...

* Fiasco -- This one see to be an overwhelming demand based on this thread... The dark humor, tension & improvisation for sense of story would make it very interesting to watch how it plays out.

* Ticket to Ride -- Can't say no to train porn! It's a great game for up to 5 people. Highly recommend getting the 1910 expansion for the larger cards & more tickets.

* Plague & Pestilence -- This one might be harder to find, but this little gem has 2 parts where the ultimate goal is being the last person standing.

* Mille Borne (aka Kilometre Borne) -- A little more pedestrian compared to other other options, but this old-school Parker Brothers classic that's pretty good in teams.

* Atmosfear: The Harbingers -- While this one might be harder to stream due to some extra copyrighted material (the video that's included that serves as the timekeeper), but would be interesting to watch near Halloween for a relatively quick game (as it's only an hour long at most).

* Clue (aka Cluedo) w/ special "Red Card" rules mod -- Clue may not be that interesting of a game, but I've created a special rules mod when adapting the game to BBS play known as "The Red Card". In this rules mod, 2 suspects are placed in the case file, but ONE of those characters / players are given the "Red Card" marking them as the murderer (which would only be shown at the end of the game)... giving the game two possible outcomes & adds a little extra twist. The drawback is that a non-player would have to set up the game due to special seeding requirements.

Will the murderer get caught red handed OR will somebody take the fall?

* Betrayal at the House on the Hill -- Another one that's pretty good near Halloween, as it has a horror / suspense theme with an element of mystery since the game's goal isn't known until the second half when one player turns on the others.

* Talisman -- An oldie, but still a pretty decent game in the RPG genre where everybody is questing to rule the world with the Crown of Command that's stashed within the center of the realms (or earth, if you want to consider that).

Just some thoughts.

It might be more complex than you want, but a board game that would work really well as a stream would be Space Alert. It is a real-time coop game where you man a space ship while everything in space tries to kill you. It is played in two phases. First, a real-time phase where an audio track computer tells you of incoming threats and you plan your actions. Second, is a resolution phase, where you see what you did horribly wrong. Here are some videos for an overview of the game, a playthrough of the real-time portion, and the resolution phase.

It's a complex game, but it does have a really good series of tutorial missions, and is a really great game if you have a sense of schadenfreude.

Another game that could work really well is Codenames. I remember telling Ian about it at MAGFest. It's like reverse Taboo in a way. Instead of saying a bunch of words to get your team to guess one word, you have to get your team to guess a bunch of words by saying one.

Space Alert *would* be pretty amazing, if just to see how terribly things could go wrong. Same with Galaxy Trucker.

Not sure if there's enough space for it, but Space Cadets: Dice Duel could be fun for a competitive game. (For those not in the know, it's a real-time game where two teams of spaceshipmenwomen are trying to pilot a space ship around and blow up the enemy team's ship. It gets... weird.)

Also, I totally saw that copy of EPIC in the new AFK intro that Paul was holding. Think there'll ever be a draft of it?

I couldn't stop laughing at Nightmare. The supreme dickery of the Gatekeeper combined with his ham and how frantic everything got toward the end was amazing.

Thank you very much for Nightmare!

For reference, the 'expansions' of Nightmare all have different people as the Host as you suggest, with Expansion #1 being Baron Samedi. This set contains new Fate cards, New Time Cards, and a new 60 minute video tape. Everything else is identical (including one player playing Baron Samedi's figure).

Also, if you are willing to fly me to Victoria I'd be more than willing to let you play with my copy, but alas I'm not willing to simply send it cross country in the mail without escort ;)

Possibly as a Halloween special, play Nightmare again with a special LRR-created video. I can just see Kathleen enjoying the role as Gatekeeper (possibly with the Snorshian accent).

The hard part would be secrecy, as the players would have to have little to no knowledge of the contents of the video (prior to playing) to keep things fair... possibly making it a special guest stream as well.

Oh, hey, The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen is getting a new edition. I bet a team of improv comedians could make that RPG sing. Where could we find such a group?

1) Thank you for playing Terra Mystica, for it reminded me that game exists and now I want to play it (and figure out how the new races from the expansion work)!

2) I do not believe this was the most successful game from a streaming perspective that could have been chosen. There are simply too many moving parts that don't translate well to screen to be an ideal candidate, as well as having a fair amount of analysis paralysis which slowed the game down (as it does any time you play the game). I found it really easy to fade out of paying attention to the game, which is not the greatest for a stream.

Continue these AFK streams! These are among (if not the top) of my favourite streams that you guys produce and would love to see more party games, board games, RPG's, miniature games, and (non MTG due to saturation) card games! :D

Honestly, I don't think Terra was *too* bad, it really needed some more back-end work and prep done on it though.

Maybe a pre-recorded segment at the start of the game that explains the general gist of the game and the rules and how you win? And then have it as a lrrBot command that can be link it for late-comers to the stream so they can get caught up on the basics.

More overlay stuff as well might help, talking about turn phases and the rules, but that might require control to be on-point switching between text.

I'll take what we got any day over Exploding Kittens, though. Woof.

RE: Exploding Kittens - Even though this game also wasn't the best for AFK (not a bad one, I stress, but not the best) due to the fact that most of the game is on cards that are hard to see, I am very glad you guys played it! If nothing else it is a good way for me to filter out games that I may have myself bought from my radar.

Speaking for myself, I think a lot of what I didn't like about the game is how shallow it is. It looks like it is very much along the same vein as Cards Against Humanity where it gets most of its enjoyment out of shock value (with the art and text on the card) rather than interesting mechanics (which there didn't seem like there were any in the game). As such I feel my enjoyment of the game would last exactly as long as it took me to read the cards. I have a similar problem with Cards Against Humanity, and find I can't play that game with the same group of people more than 3 times before I get bored (it is a great ice breaker game if you play with different groups, however!). Since this game is more mechanical than player driven (like CAH), I don't think I personally would buy it.

To the other games: I am terrible at twitch-based reflex games (like Dutch Blitz or Pit) so I also likely wouldn't want to play Jungle Speed, and Jenga is ultimately one of the best games ever designed and I always have fun with that :P

As always, keep up these games! Even the ones I am not a fan of I massively appreciate you guys playing!

Got turned on to it via the SU&SD review of it, but any thoughts of maybe a RPG session(season?) of World Wide Wrestling RPG?

It's like some sort of Tower of Dice Roll.

Oh hey, it's interesting that we're getting Risk Legacy next week. Will be interesting to see if we get multiple rounds out of it, because the first few games will probably go super fast.

Yes, I know, Risk takes forever yadda yadda yadda Legacy is a different beast. It doesn't go until Last Faction Standing, it runs on a victory point system.

At the start of the game, you place a HQ on the board which is worth a Star. If you havn't won a game yet, you start with a second Star. You can also get a Star by turning in four cards instead of buying troops with them. First player to get to four Stars wins.

So conceivably you could win the first game by taking one other player's HQ and then turning in cards. Hence... it going fast.

You guys mentioned Diplomacy on your Risk Legacy game, which suggests to me that you guys have played it before, and I SO would like to see you play it. However, I'm not sure that Talking Simulator would be the best venue as 90% of the game is 'behind the scenes'.

One day (in your plentitudes of spare time, I'm sure) you guys could try to do an edited video of that (or another negotiation-based game), with each person having the opportunity to go into the 'negotiation booth' similar to in Reality Shows where the people give their cutaways.

I saw it mentioned earlier in the thread by handsongammer, and I want to add my vote for Epic Spell Wars. Also, the more D&D the better. I think a death trap a la Tomb of Horrors, but written by someone of the LRR crew, could be fun.

Hey guys, it's the guy from PAXOZ who waited in the ungodly line three times on Sunday and gave you the copy of Mangaka.
I just wanted to say that unfortunately I just barely missed out on the stream but am eagerly waiting for the youtube upload so I can see all the shenanigans.

If you go onto the LRR Twitch channel - twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun - then click on the videos tab at the top and then on the drop down menu click Past Broadcasts you can watch any of the LRR streams with chat! I think it's more like actually being part of the stream anyway...
