Fight the Future 22 - Knights Of Sidonia

The future in the anime series Knights of Sidonia has hot teen photosynthesis, clones, a third gender, and a cyborg bear lunch lady, but Dan and Paul still get distracted by questions like, "Why do the giant space robots have knees?"

2 questions. What is said at the end of every episode with graham where he says excellent? Is there any way to hear the entire theme music for this (and other) podcasts?

Loved your take on this! I wanted SO bad to like this show, and loved the universe and everything about it, but like the works of Margret Atwood I just couldn't get past the (in my own opinion) sloppy and unengaging storyline to experience the wonderful universes underneath. There is so much potential in the Knights Universe for analysis and discussion!

I think your discussion about 'why do they have knees' is part of the reason these mech animes never appealed to me. Way to much of 'everyone does it this way, so we'll do it this way' regardless of if that makes sense or not. Everything you talked about seemed to be a cliche of the genre, young upstart thati s really good but different in some way, always beating a challenge 'just in time'.

@Admiralmatt That is my friend Chiara Cont, who also does the interstitial announcements, saying "Ci vediamo!" (See you later! in italian) and me reacting, "Perfect!" I had her record some goodbyes, but we decided not to use them "officially". We should find a way to make the theme music available clean - it's so awesome!

Thanks @Bergie! So you're saying there's so much potential - but the show itself doesn't bring it out. I agree! We've also been planning to do Year of the Flood for a while, but I just have no appetite to read it at the moment - like Scorch Trials, sometimes that's the limitation.

I agree @DaMage! This was a very cautious, very generic work, seemingly solely made with commercial anciliaries in mind. So we tried to praise the moments of weirdness and individuality where we could find them.

Not knowing Italian, I had been frequently wondering what "Chicken Yamo" meant, but never remembered to ask. :-D

True true, I totally get that the whole point of this podcast is to talk about the story/universe, not review what it is.

Personally I think this show would be far less interesting if it reviewed the books, movies, etc., on quality as opposed to the world. This is one of the most unique and interesting podcast "review" shows I've ever listened to. It's made me be interested in reading some of the books they have reviewed and also I just always get excited every time there is a new episode downloading to my phone.
