Re: Death from Above
For a black hole to kill us it would have to come very close to us. Say for example the sun turned into a black hole (it is no where near massive for this to occur as it ages. Anyway the increased brightness as it ages, not to mention the supernova that would accompany the creation of the black hole would kill us all before the black can do anything.) While we would notice the sun was no longer shining but acting as a nice gravitational lens about 8 minutes after the conversion, gravitationally we would notice nothing. Once you are a few times the radius of the event horizon away there is nothing different about the gravity of an black hole compared to something made of normal matter.
We are all made of star dust. However we are also made of nuclear waste.

And to be fair, Paul did some of the shooting in the moonbase, though I did most of it. Probably a 70/30 split. Meh. Paul got an acting credit.
Wait, so Kathleen was present for filming, but Graham wasn't? That must be a first.
Re: Death from Above
I enjoyed it. I liked the call backs to arMEGAddon but wasn't the title of Jer's character's book different? Has he since written a second book? Also the sunglasses Paul was wearing need to be used more.

We split the party.

He wrote a second book.

Well, to be fair, the "party" stayed with us and the rest of them went out and worked.

Wasn't super impressed with this one. Can't pin what it was exactly, but i lost interest about halfway through and tabbed away, didn't even notice when it ended.
I blame Matt.

Re: Death from Above
Going by this picture, I'm guessing those scenes were recorded on/around August 31, to make sure you could get Chrusher in there before he left the country and not disrupt your planned shooting/release schedule (not to mention, give you the time to build the newsdesk set).

Best headline, I liked the bringing back of ArMEGAdon.

Re: Death from Above
I am of the opinion that the real reason Chrusher was running away, was that he spotted his plane to Europe through the telescopes, and realized he had to book it down to the airport (hence grabbing his laptop).
Also, one of the things I find hilarious about 2012 predictions is that the Mayans did, in fact, predict events well past 2012 (for example, one ruler predicted the anniversary of his kingship would be celebrated in 4772. Even with an ego that large, knowing the world would end almost 3000 years before that would put a dent in your party plans).
Last thing, when viewing the video at fullscreen, I noticed some slight blurriness at times. Autofocus having trouble with the newsdesk background?

I have to ask Graham about that, but I'm guessing it had something to do with a setting on my camera getting borked for a couple of shots. I didn't notice it during shooting, but there was a short period where a few things got reset when I disconnected the power adapter. (We were charging the camera between shots because the battery was almost dead.)
One way or another, it was my fault. I'm just not sure in what way.

Re: Death from Above
I watched this while a friend who has yet to be inducted to the full extent of LRR-goodness came over and he giggled mightily at all of the news captions, as did I. Some of them I didn't get, but that's okay. Excellent writing on the Lord's part (as well as the rest of the regular cast), and Paul's ditzy astrologer was really fun to watch, as is Matt's anchorguy.
However, the thing that bugged me the most was the placement of Jer's sight line to Matt. Whenever I see people on TV being interviewed or having discussions with news anchors live on the set, they usually show a 3/4 face shot and with Jer, it was almost a half-face shot. It ruined the verisimilitude of the piece for me.

Re: Death from Above
I think that's just because of the way the set was set up. Since it was made primarily for ENN, it follows the standard two-anchor set-up: Basic table, anchors sitting beside each other, talking primarily to the camera. In shows with guests (from what I've seen, anyways), the desks tend to be more roundy, so they can sit the guest at an angle to the anchor, and use different camera angles so its more towards the guest. Judging from the pictures we've seen, it doesn't look like the backdrop is wide enough to easily accommodate a guest sitting at the side of the desk, or off-angle shots. I still think they pulled it off fairly well with what they had.
Also, I'm guessing that was the script in front of Matt.

Re: Death from Above
I dunno, it didn't catch me. Either it's my mood, or the fact that my mom watches shows like this all the time and so 2012 has already been debunked to me.
Also, it got a bit preachy towards the end. I don't want my comedy preachy.

I did intent it to be an attack on astrology.
When I sat down to write this I intend it to be informative in addition to being funny. I know it is not everyone's cup of tea but I think quite a few are interested by astronomy especially when it has an end of the world bent.

Re: Death from Above
I think the dialogue and the concept of the video is very good. But it seems to be a little slow paced, and long. While it is humorous, it doesn't have a lot of "ha ha, lol" funny and it's more just amusing.
