French restaurants have never been more French.




Note: Jer and I are on our way back from PAX East and everyone else is in New York by now, so things are a bit crazy today, but the video will be properly posted on the site some time later tonight.

Good video. Had me grinning through the whole thing.

I mentally called the trebuchet joke after catapult came up and I thought of Alja.

Also, all three of you can rock french accents pretty well. Especially G.

And it's always good to see Andy again.

Woo for Andy. Was this the same Andy character who was in Economic Stimulus and Street Value? Man that guy cannot get a break from the service industry/ ... beggars.

French accents were good and cheesy, nice to hear. All round I liked it. Also, Tims appearance in this video was bizarrely shady and like back alley dealer type.

I like to think Andy was the same guy as in Economic Stimulus, but I wouldn't call it any kind of canon or continuity. He just does that role well.

The video was hilarious at PAX, and it was hilarious when I watched it today.

The French accents were appropriately awful, they added to the comedic effect...I mean making it "more realistic" wouldn't really do anything other than make it harder on Graham and Paul.

I'm sorry to say I had to look up the word trebuchet. You and your high class vocabulary.

Amazingly well done. Appropriate accents. Especial props to Graham for nonchalantly adding the catapult into the speech such that it didn't register as odd and I had to go back to listen to it.

And of course, always a treat to have Andy in a video.

Yay Andy! when are we gonna get another song?! Still well done Andy plays that role well. He just can't catch a break.

This was hilarious, just wonderful silly humour. I agree with previous posters, I was thinking that it should be the same character from Economic Stimulus, but as Tim says Andy does play that role to perfection.

I loved Tim's shady character in comparison to the honesty of Graham and Paul and the stinger had me in stitches.

I just wonder if Alja has recovered from seeing this, I imagine it's sent him catatonic with glee.

Yay, Andy! And his character from Toilet Humour, no less! (Same restaurant from the other two 'fancy restaurant' stories?)

Sadly, I think Paul needs to work on his accent a bit, and Tim needs to practice acting like a salesman. But the special effects were well done in their subtlety, and as usual, the humour was consistently chuckle-inducing.

And Paul from a couple of LRRcasts ago was wrong; I did notice the lack of fancy camera work.

Also, how did you guys get an empty restaurant for however long it took to film this?

I really didn't. I was expecting Graham to have been working for the normal cafe across the street. Bringing down the competition from the inside you know? Like the end would have been Tim on the phone to Graham like "Hey, so you've still got him thinking catapults are a good idea?" "Yeah, and he's still buying my obviously fake French accent."

I dunno where it could have gone from there, it was just what I was expecting.

I like to think that all of Andy's straight man characters are the same guy.

I was also of the idea that the waiter was working for hte Cafe across the street.

My only question is how is a Cafe Trebuchet doing better business? The waiter did say that the cafe across the street was taking his business.I would think they would both be hard up for business and I personally would feel safer being launched from a catapult than a trebuchet.

He's doing better business because he's grabbing the customers that storm out of the catapult café.

Did anybody else notice the X-wing in the window during that scene?

On behalf of myself and other trebuchet enthusiasts in the forum (so, me and Alja, I suppose...) I'd like to say:

TAKE THAT, CATAPULTS!! SIEGE ENGINE? MORE LIKE SUCK ENGINE! HAHA!

(by some definitions, trebuchets are a kind of catapult, but some definitions are morons!)

Who should apparently REALLY avoid people in suits (especially at resturaunts).

This was one of those sneaky funnies for me. I was just kinda going along with it, thinking it was a pretty standard LRR video, and by the time Andy was sailing through the clouds I realized to my surprise that I was laughing. Aloud. And I never laugh out loud. I LQTM, but I almost never LOL.

I don't know what did it, I think it was Tim's fish line.

very good vid. but why did Paul measure Andy back and get him to step on a scale? i think im missing something... also I know were that was shot, vic event center. Ive actually been in the... i guess you would call it the attic of that building. when i was working. its scary up there, everything burnt out from a fire back in the day. but a cool venue all the same. sweet vid i like it but i thought you were goiign to make the other cafe be a piece of medieval siege defiance, to it was like they were fighting or something over the street.

The Good Stuff:

LRR has been casting Andy in Straight-Man roles so long I'm going to be disappointed if they ever cast him as the comic.

The Cafe De La Catapulte can't be that bad if they have an X-Wing & robots in the window.

The funniest part to me by far was the stinger with Andy calmly eating a roll, trying to keep the wind out of his eyes. I had to go back & watch it several times before I could continue.

The Bad Stuff: (mostly nit-picks)

The accents could have used a little work. As Paul mentioned in an old Ask LRR part of a podcast, he can't do particular accents so much as bad ______ accents. Like a bad German accent or a bad French accent. His character led me to believe the ethnicity of the restaurant would be in dispute somehow.

Still only one tux, eh? Does it fit better on anyone else?

I've presumed Graham's messy hair is intentional for his character in ENN but he could have combed it here. Unless the lack of customers had left his character nervous & disheveled.


But overall, I quite enjoyed it. I was never quite sure which direction it was going to go.

I saw this at PAX, and me and my bro watched it again, and we say:

OHHH... that's why he weighed him. DUH.

Count me in as another who thought of Alja. Funny stuff all around.
