I have no idea what versions of Linux you're using. Those designed for general use tend to have just as much of a UI as Windows or Apple. A less flashy one, but no less easy to use. Combined with its efficiency, it is a popular choice for netbooks and mobile devices (remember, Android is based on the Linux kernal). The majority of non-tech oriented people use computers for 4 key tasks: Using the internet, creating documents/office work (including minor photo work), media (movies, pictures, music), and playing games. A default, fresh install of Ubuntu can do the first three of those with no more hassle or fuss (in some cases, less), than AppleOS or Windows.

Damn Matt, you were really give the 'studly' gift in this video :D , just how do you do it, man? Hording all the ladies, that's just greedy (but a hell of a lot of fun :P ). Nice head on the keyboard though Matt.

Nice to have a song we can at least somehow link to Desert Bus, thanks to Mr. Borg for a good song and the whole LRR gang for a funny video to go with it.

But also, LRR Ladies, making comedy look gooooood.

After the uproar on this forum about the misogyny inherent in the Escapist's new "Top 5 suggestive top 5 lists presented by Lisa Foiles in a miniskirt" series, I was surprised that the first appearance of a woman in this video was in the form of an extreme close-up of Kathleen's chest as she walked into the scene wearing the "Xerox' shirt.

Well for one thing, this was filmed (and edited, I believe) several weeks ago, before Desert Bus and before Lisa Foiles' debut on the Escapist.

Also, I feel there's a difference between how an attractive woman is presented in Lisa's Top 5 and how attractive women are presented in this and other LRR videos. It's the difference between shouting "Over here over here, look at me, check out my BOOBS, and now I'll wiggle my ass at you, I'm really good at looking hot and I work really hard at it, so keep watching me bounce around!" and saying "Hey guys, I'm gonna do some acting here and say interesting things while looking sexy because, well, I'm a woman and I like to look good - now allow me to share my intellectual talents as well."

I won't pretend that Kathleen and I don't pay attention to how we look for a video. That would be a lie and really, would anyone believe it? We put on makeup and choose carefully what to wear, because we want to look nice for us and for you (unless playing a role where we're not supposed to look good). We're girls, we're human - we want to look good! But I would hope that no one gets the impression that our being cute or pretty or feminine is the whole point of our being on camera. Both of us have skills and talents that are vastly more important than how we look, and are hopefully a cause for more sustained and thoughtful interest in what we do.

Women are pretty. Breasts and other curvy bits are attractive. People like to look at them, myself included - I spend much more time appreciating girls' looks than guys'. There's nothing wrong with this, so long as women make clear that there are other things about them worth noticing, appreciating and valuing.

I'm reasonably convinced that Lisa Foiles does have a lot of talent. If she starts to demonstrate this (while looking as sexy as she damn well pleases), I'll start to have a great deal more respect for her show.

Sorry about the long off-topic yakking - this is stuff I ponder now and again, as I'm sure you can imagine. :)

Amazingly this thread descended into an OS debate/flame war even faster than the big E.

"Troll", indeed.

Good vid, well played, but my audio was a tad out of sync...?

And how perfect to have Matt beaten up and/or rejected by three women.

That was my thought also actually XD

I have to say, I enjoyed the video a lot more than the music portion, but I'm also not a huge fan of this specific song. The video writing was amazing, and the acting was flawless :D

I think that LRR has a future in geek music video production, for sure.

While I enjoyed the video, I'd like to add some (hopefully) constructive criticism. To me it didn't feel enough like a music video. Music videos tend to have a more artistic and aesthetic feel to them, rather than a realistic feel. I hope you can understand what I mean. You guys did this when you made music videos before, like when you used the wide angle lens on the 64K videos with the creative camera movements (or even with the creative animation of Tucson or Bust).

Here, I thought the content was good and it was well acted, but it felt too much like a regular video. I thought it could have been better with some filters, more dramatic lighting, or more different camera angles. It doesn't have to be flashing, but could be more "atmospheric".

So, in summary it was good, but more like a video with music than a music video.

P.S. The t-shirts and earrings were great :)

..There was a Commodore 64 costume? Only Apple, Windows and Linux were represented by clothing/personas.. The Commodore 64 was.. A real Commodore 64.

I posted my thoughts directly to Missie and Matt via Twitter and on The Escapist's comments thread already.. Personally, I think Matt was awesome in this! Those Escapist tards that consistently berate his acting skills (or supposed lack thereof) can honestly piss off. There's nothing wrong with your acting at all, Matt. (I've been listening to a lot of old 2008 LRRcasts and really, Matt..)

For serious. Don't beat yourself up so much.

Here's my two cents:

Raised on macs, most used to them, will have to go dual OS to be the best possible artist, especially in live action and animation film making, as such, Apple hardware is by far the best choice for my home system, as it is the most friendly to running multi os systems. I will use the best tool to get what I need done, and that's that. Being an artist/writer/filmmaker, that tool will virtually never be linux.

Side note: HOW DARE YOU, LRR CREW?!?! HOW DARE YOU OBJECTIFY OS's BY EQUATING THEM TO WOMEN?

Wait.... reverse that.

Considering that I am a PhD student who is readying about file systems and backups right now it should be surprising that Linux is my favourite OS. I have to admit part of the appeal of Linux for me is that I am familiar with it. OS X has a lot of nice features but with a little tweaking a surprising number of these features are available in Linux. On the other hand OS X does not do things in the way I am used to on Linux and lacks some things I find quite useful such as a proper package management system. Windows is good at gaming but it is not a *nix. This coming from someone who has used all three quite a bit.

The video is quite good but as some have already mentioned it does not feel much like a music video. Admittedly I do not think the song would work with a normal music video what ever that is.

so is Google OS is like Missie(Linux) airhead vallygirl sister who only know how to do stuff online.?

now a days most OS can do the same, and yes if you are into gaming you have to use one of the OS that the game was made for, you don't put PS3 games in a Xbox or a wii.
And if I just wants to check my mail, I can drop a live CD in the CD drive and turn on the computer, and 1-5 minutes after with out having to do anything else press the web browser icon and I'm online, and can see that no one wants to talk to me.

also I use windows and GNU/linux , and yes Windows likes to sometimes go "what report?" or just "How do I look all in blue". and Linux just smiles at you and every so often when you are trying or have tried something new just punches you in the gut, and as with females just stopping doing what you did wrong, will not always fixes thing.

This was great, although I actually thought the live version of the song on Desert Bus sounded better overall.. Oh, and also; if a girl is skipping about, blowing kisses and randomly assaulting me that's gonna make me run miles, not follow her. :?

Missy still looked good doing it, tho. ;)

Hence why Matt reaches out for her, glances at his hand, then realises "Actually, this is ridiculous, forget it Linux"

Matt burns aside, and as someone who's never even tried OS or Linux, this was a thoroughly entertaining video and you should all be very pleased with yourselves.

Definitely a great video for me to return to the internets with! The whole time I was without the internet, all I could think of was LRR. Well, and porn. But mostly LRR.

Also, I thought that Missie's name was "Missle" at first and I was like "Woah thats awesome!" I think I need sleep.

Things I learned from this video.

1. Apple will take your money because you're dumb enough to give it to them.

2. Microsoft is smart, eclectic, and will give out when things are about to get good.

3. Linux is easy to get, but an abusive mistress.

4. Matt should have just chosen to be gay.

I'd probably follow her. It'd be interesting at least, and it probably wouldn't end up worse than my usual encounters.

I also use Linux while having exotic audio gear, so YMMV. Maybe I just like pain.
