The LRR CD-ROM Game

Postby Matt » 17 Jan 2011, 09:15

All the fun of LRR with the added irritation of changing CDs every 10 minutes.

Was the alien music from Metroid?

Now that I think about it, it does make sense.

I'm guessing this was the Season Finale??

That was hilarious, a great parody of that sort of game, but with a LRR twist.

I am making this. I'm thinking Flash as the language. Unfortunately, I can't use any of the voices or background music as they are all muddled up. Any suggestions?

1. I knew Fungiman would want to make this
2. This is now my favorite LRR video, hands down, and I can't believe it.

I tried to click. It only paused the video.

This was a great video! Adding the new crew member to the credits was a very nice touch.

Maybe try pleading with the crew to give you unmuddled audio. If you add in some tears and something about your parents not loving you, they might give in faster.

Brilliant! That video took me back to the era of early-to-mid 1990s games, complete with the slow dissolve effect when turning around 90 degrees.

The lack of interactivity reminded me of the game Zork: Grand Inquisitor, where the first NPC introduced himself and then asked:

"So what's your name?"

There was nothing to click and no place to type.

The NPC stared at you for a while, looking increasingly puzzled, and finally said:

"Ooookaaaaaay. I'm just gonna call you Ageless, Faceless, Gender-Neutral, Culturally-Ambiguous Adventurer Person. Greetings, Afgncaap!"

I'm curious what bit of awesomeness Nick Haines did to have it specifically mentioned in the credits.

Also, Jer's happy pirate smiles slay me.

I'm a massive fan of this type of game.

As such, I found it hilarious. And yes, I did try clicking on the shirt... Why did you have to get my hopes up? :(

It was James again who nailed it for me, his sudden, "Wait? Matt?" killed me.

"Here, have some chloroform" was amazing.

Paul's near-endless loop of "for the love of god, please just take the shirt!!!" actually reminded me quite a lot of Atrus practically begging you to click on him to give him the white page at the end of Myst (and incidentally, hooray for Myst in the video tags XD).

"And the page, did you bring the page?"
"Ah, give it to me. Give me the page. Please give me the page. The page, my friend, the page. [loop]"

(is it sad that I typed that from memory?)

Anyway, super awesome job guys. I will admit that I didn't actually click the video during Paul's prompts, but I had to fight the urge with everything I had. We are all so very, very conditioned.

I clicked the shirt, and I did so honestly expecting something to happen other than the video being paused.

It was actually a bit frustrating; the crew yelling at us for not doing something we would happily do if only we had the capacity!

But yes, something like this needs to be a real game. Or maybe just a LRR-themed point-and-click adventure game in general. Nothing like wandering around the Moonbase for hours searching for the three random objects that Paul can assemble together into a gadget to advance the plot...

I clicked!!

This was awesome, and made so much better by the fact that I have spent the last two days straight playing Kings Quest I and II. I have died so many times in countless ways. "You just proved that gravity exists, but you already knew that didn't you, King Graham?"

Also, I totally want to see that video with Jer, Kathleen and Alex.

Yeap, I clicked the shirt too. Great video, though it does make you feel useless :D
BTW, you can now try to make clicking work using YouTube, like the Who Wants to be a YouTubillionaire!? system.

I tried to play, I swear to you I tried to play but clicking or typing only paused the video. Please don't be mad LRR. I still love you.

...

It's good to see LRR finally making a LRR-based video game themselves. All of the fan attempts thus far have fallen through. Somewhere I have an archive of all the forum threads about the various attempts. I'll see if I can find it.
