Reality Tear
Re: Reality Tear
LOL great video this week!
I will openly admit, I have hoarding tendencies. And this just made me feel loads better. XD
Also, GREAT twist at the end.
"You just eliminated the next Jesus!" Awesomesauce, Morgan. <3

Can't get enough of that heavy meta (or Morgan for that matter). Also, old school Pwn'd reference is old school.

Re: Reality Tear
Fun nerdy fact: James is wearing the same outfit he wore, where he played a zombie on the House of the Dead episode, which as stated by Graham was another episode utilizing an empty house.

Re: Reality Tear
I'm going to be in the minority in saying this wasn't really a hit for me. I was hooked immediately by the ridiculous Hoarders and then the p'wnd callback which was epic.
After that, it didn't work for me. The transitions between the shows were a little too abrupt. The parodies weren't very sharp, either. The key to any parody is getting the details right and you guys usually pay so much attention to detail this video was jarring. All of those shows have distinctive personalities and while you nailed Hoarders and Punk'd it felt like you just half-assed the rest of them. The number on Morgan's chest wasn't remotely close to those one would see in American Idol and that would've taken all of 10-15 minutes to get right.
I think you could've gotten away without the "quality" if there had been more quantity. Graham has repeated on the podcasts and the forums that a video doesn't have to be long, it just has to be good. In this case, I think the video was cut at least two reality shows short in the rapidfire section. I wonder if most of the drivel doesn't make it to Canada, but America's Next Top Model and Project Runway have fantastic bombastic personalities and have both been through many, many seasons. The Biggest Loser is still pretty popular and would've played well as a parody with pretty much anyone in the video, because you're all so slim. There was a mention of The Apprentice in either this thread or the Escapist thread and throwing Trump's hair on someone would've made for a great, albeit cheap, laugh.
Maybe I'm expecting too much given the time/budget constraints you have, but neither of those constraints seemed to have ever stopped LRR before.
I write all this, because you always encourage honest criticism and I think this video could've been so much more. Maybe part of that is because you guys have been on such a great run this year and my standards have been raised so high. You are all victims of your own success.
If the podcast hasn't been recorded for this video yet, I would love to hear more some more detail behind the video. In particular, I would be interested to hear what got cut at writing, filming or editing.

Re: Reality Tear
I was hoping to see someone get frigde'd, but over all I like it with it's references to shows I never watch. Also, is that Alex's STALKER suit?
Witty and humorous signature here.
Re: Reality Tear
This one was alright, though not one of my favourites (but then, I probably spoiled myself by watching about 2 hours of previously unseen LRR videos just last night). I've also never watched any of those shows, so that might be part of it.
This one seemed a little more amateurish to me than most. Perhaps that was you guys trying to get the "reality show feel" to the video, but it could have used a bit more polish I think. Maybe some title cards, voice overs or melodramatic music.

I enjoyed the washed out colours when doing The Bachelor. All in all a fun video that I could laugh at. Thank you.

Re: Reality Tear
It started and ended well, with the Hoarders then the transition into Pwn'd and the stinger ending, but I think a few costume changes should have been in order with the mass group. Morgan just changing hats was genius, but I think the others should have changed more, marking a drastic change between the shows.
Morgan at the end was genius, though. Spot on.

No disrespect to those suggestions, but we did have the melodramatic music at least. Bradley whipped up some great stuff in short order this week.Tapir12 wrote:Maybe some title cards, voice overs or melodramatic music.

I think I really didn't get most of the 'Reality TV' jokes here, seeing as I don't watch reality TV, and I'm happy with that.
YEAH ME, I WIN!!!
Although, welcome back to the video Mr Morgan, sir. Nice to see your special brand of madness we all love so much. (Work those hats man, WORK 'EM!!!)

Re: Reality Tear
The second half of the video felt a bit flat. The Horders and pwn'd worked well but the remaining segments did not quite work. Rather than have Morgan and Paul/Alex/Kathleen go back and forth for all the parodies, bringing in new characters for each new parody may have worked better.
This may have something to do with being in Australia and how popular MasterChef is here but you could also have included a completive cooking show.

Re: Reality Tear
I actually quite liked this one. I was quite curious as to where you would go with the Hoarders bit and was pleasantly surprised when Morgan showed. After that it was just a barrage of hilarity. Nice work.
I think you had enough references - any more shows and it would have gone too long. Though, I do find it odd for there to be a reference to P'wnd but not to LRR's previous reality TV efforts, House of the Dead and 64k auditions.

Re: Reality Tear
I enjoyed it, but I did feel that the cuts/transitions near the end were a lot more jarring and out of place then in the beginning. Hoarders flowed into Pwn'd flowed into Intervention very well, after that, not so much.

The music was awfully quiet, at least compared to the dialogue. I missed most of the music the first time I watched the video. I watched it again with the volume turned up, and I finally got to appreciate how the music enhanced the transitions.
This happens often. I watch a LRR video with the volume set at a modest level, and I only notice the dialogue. Then in the podcast you mention how Bradley worked for 72 hours straight to record the music on vintage equipment that he painstakingly restored just for this occasion.
Maybe it's just me, but I think you should increase the volume of the music in your videos, especially where you're using it for dramatic or comic effect during pauses in the talking.
Re: Reality Tear
This was awesome... i love what you guys tried to do... very smooth, very awesome
Something did make me wonder though...
You guys are in Maple ridge now?!?!?! I thought you were on the island! Most people I know in BC don't even know that Maple ridge (or even Poco, where I live) is! even people in coquitlam don't know where those are (and thats the next city over!)

I chose Maple Ridge at random—no we're still in Victoria.

Ya, I didn't notice the music at all. That is totally fine if the music is there to enhance the mood/setting etc. But I agree that it should be more prominent if it actually part of the joke. And since Bradley does such great stuff, you can use the opportunity to show him off

It's full of idiocy.

Re: Reality Tear
holy returning lavos batman!
that's a reference almost as old as Pwn'd.
I agree with the sentiment that the second half of the video was much weaker than the first. I was hoping for the funny too keep escalating after Morgan appeared, but is ended up tailing off.

Re: Reality Tear
I really enjoyed this video, but the beginning was far stronger than the ending.
The transition from hoarders to pwn'd to the intervention were all great... the rest of it felt like they were just attached on for the heck of it.
Imagine instead if say Morgan had flipped out at the intervention, given a speech about his friends betraying him, and ran out crying... as the video pans out, and you see it's actually being screened, before Morgan accepts an Oscar for best dramatic performance in a reality show, to much handshaking and applause from his peers.
The stinger would then be Morgan turning off a power point presentation explaining to someone pretending to be Donald Trump, that the previous video was his new business plan idea, and then promptly receiving a "You're Fired!".
Annnnnnnd now I'm sad because the above didn't happen

Similar yes... although it would be in keeping with the reality TV show theme, but the transitions would be closer to what they did in Trivial.
