Re: The First Rule
I love Jame's cotton beard and the deep breath Paul takes before his telepathic question. Great video and wonderful stinger. "No Rules Means No Pants" should be on a t-shirt

That may in fact be the greatest stinger I have ever seen.

Re: The First Rule
The problem with this generation is that no one can just accept vague mystical advice anymore.
Oh, and I would wear the hell out of a "No Rules Mean No Pants" shirt, at least until I stop wearing clothing in public because, as sensai said, there are no rules.

Re: The First Rule
The stinger really made this one, IMO. Paul's over-analytical musings were entertaining, but Kathleen's "NO RULES MEANS NO PANTS!" is what got me funny looks from my co-workers as I tried to stifle my laughter.

Re: The First Rule
Stop me if you've heard this one before, but Kathleen rocks the craziness. Although that shouldn't overshadow the good job James and Paul did with the facial expressions. Did it take a while to get a take that synched up nicely? I can imagine it being easy to accidentally pull the wrong face if you're not delivering the lines out loud.
I enjoyed the return of the Shaolin-style outfit, albeit without the braided pubes. The floating pebble also looked pretty sweet, although I still find it slightly disconcerting to see proper CG in a web series that I grew to love while it had an effects budget of charitable donations, pocket lint and whatever was lying around the house.

Re: The First Rule
I inadvertently somewhat predicted the stinger after I saw Kathleen was in it. I feel bad.
And aw, no Morgan.
Also, the pebble was a nice touch.

Re: The First Rule
Haha, very well done. I imagine trying to do all the facial expressions without any words would have been tricky. You guys picked a very "zen" location too. I liked the little zap that James gave Paul on the way out.
Re: The First Rule
Similar to what others have said, when I saw that Kathleen was credited as appearing and that there were 20 seconds left for the stinger... let's just say it's a setup for hilarity.
I also enjoy this addition to the list of videos where James has a giant mustache.

Re: The First Rule
Add me to the list of people enjoying the beard-thing.
I definitely enjoyed the video. Oddly enough, it also made me think how nobody thinks twice when someone says, "The first rules is that there are no rules."
Maybe I just didn't predict the stinger because I haven't been here long enough, but new favorite stinger ever. Kathleen was great.

Brilliant video, James does the authority figures really well.
With the cotton wool beard it looks like one of his mystical powers is to channel the whatever thing.

I loved the completely natural and not at all fake beard.
There were so many great lines in this as well, and as for the stinger... Oh my xD
I do love a good Paul script

I would absolutely buy a No Rules Means No Pants shirt or other product! It is a brilliant line.
The first-rule thing always annoyed me because I am all too willing to get caught up in logical thought questions.
And yes, BEARD LOVE

I was about 1 minute in and practically shouted 'paul wrote this'. Only he could spend that much time and this much comedy stuck on such a small idea, it's awesome. Also, damned fine stinger gag.

Not to be rude, but I feel as though you take a quick look in the Kathleen sketches, I believe you will find them bat-shit wierd beyond the comprehensions of hell, itself.
Anywho on to the video, yes to T-shirt idea, I was a little bummed out when I figured out that Morgan wasn't the master monk, not to say that James didn't do a great job, because he did, which allowed me to get over no Morgan, so I won't make a big deal of that. Then within the first WTF expression Paul made I was like, yep it's one Paul's spawnchild. Then the stinger, I expected Kathleen to give the same reaction, but what I got was the wierdness that lies with her, Kathleen you are loved. So now I'm going to have Kathleen dancing around, kicking hats, and proclaiming to the world that no rules = no pants stuck in my head all week.

I keep hearing this, but I do not believe it. I can't see how Sigma Theta Delta is possibly as weird as Decadent Sports League. (To be fair, The First Rule is one of the less weird Paul sketches. Still...)
Weird is subjective, I suppose, but I just don't find Kathleen's sketches that odd, while I find Paul's sketches bizarre. Funny in both cases, mind you.

Fair enough, I guess it all boils down to each of our own personal definitions of wierd.

Re: The First Rule
Personally I wouldn't say Kathleen's sketches are "weird" but more along the lines of being "twisted" in terms of humor. Most of her work errs to the side of being bizarre or just plain wrong in regard to her jokes.
If you want to see odd, Jack, watch Deeply Religious, which is still my favorite sketch LRR has ever done.

Re: The First Rule
I enjoyed this episode. I was struck by how hard it probably is to act with your eyes closed, and yet, I thought the humor came across quite well. I was puzzled by seeing Kathleen in the credits, and then I saw the stinger. I thought she was going to comment on "my son", but then she went all pantless... much better.
Re: The First Rule
I would very much buy a "No Rules Means No Pants" shirt. I suggest this as the next preorder trial.
