Re: Voluntourism
While not laugh-out-loud hilarious, it definitely makes a worthwhile point, and the brick joke was nice.
Also, Matt, you totally sell the baby face here. If I didn't know you were older, I'd totally believe you were as young as you were playing.

Re: Voluntourism
...I think I may have a massive agree-ing erection for Graham here. So many times I've wanted to just tear peoples heads off for that kind of thing. Yes, there's plenty of things one can do over there, however, what they lack, and thus need, are people with skills, and far too many people that are going over in some ill-defined quest to help are doing so precisely because they have no skills to give them direction in life.

Re: Voluntourism
Beautifully written and performed, Graham! Especially the long "freshman co-eds" speech. And the sheer astonishment of the "No?" afterwards was great.
This sketch could easily have come across as preachy, but it managed to stay hilarious from start to finish. Good job.

Re: Voluntourism
I found the the fact that Graham was so unsavoury at the start and finish a little jarring in contrast to the "tough love" aspect of his dialogue with Matt. Personally I found this compromising to the message, if he is the kind of person who doesn't really care about his job then his speech is invalidated.
Matt also did a great job with the acting in this one, nice performance.
Certainly not a laugh out loud skit but entertaining and made me think.

Wow. Just wow. That was one of the best LRR sketches in a long, long time.

I think he cares. I like to think he's sending Matt to get his pills so he can keep working, or something.

If we banned people who buy things off the internet for horribly perverted uses from ever doing things for charity... Then where would we be?

I kind of liked the fact that Graham was a little unsavoury at the start and finish. He is charitable and he cares, but he also has a personal life which is perhaps not 100% gold.

Re: Voluntourism
I personally really enjoyed the video. It reminded me a bit of hyperchondria in tone, actually. Graham does exasperation so well.
Also, both Graham and Matt looked really good. I think the glasses are a nice touch and are a costume option you guys don't often take advantage of.

Seconded.
Love the tone of voice in the stinger. "Can you direct me to someone who does?"
"And it also helps with splash-back"

Re: Voluntourism
Freaking great guys. Yes, people on a savior-trip, we also need guys to do the paperwork, otherwise the people that actually know what they're doing don't get paid. If you're that desperate to get your hands dirty, there's a soup kitchen down the block. Trying showing up on a day that isn't right around Thanksgiving/Christmas.

I loved the out-of-context double-bluff in the opener, and also the stinger... hilarious.
The rest was good too, but apparently what makes me really laugh is dick jokes.

I have to say this video was skirting dangerously close to satire.
Overall very funny, I loved Graham's character, and the intro/stinger was hilarious.

I got that Matt would be doing all the busy work so that Graham could do important things like making sure that people who know how to direct well diggers get paid. I was imaging that during the stinger Matt was hunched over a 486 DS running Microsoft works building spreadsheets. I appreciate that as being humerus torture.
My mother voluntold me I was helping out a charity with their computers for a week one summer. I made spreadsheets for their donors explaining the money flow, with logo writer on a first generation mac.

Yes, I made this post JUST to say that.

Re: Voluntourism
Is Graham wearing Matt's glasses?
Also, it took me awhile to pick up on this, but I love how Graham's char is written to be, on first glance, a...I don't even know, a hater or something? Not sure what you call it. And then it turns out he just wants someone to pick up his semi-legal pills. Presumably, those spreadsheets Matt's character will be doing are all involved with their drug trafficking ring.

Re: Voluntourism
At no point there did I see Graham as being a dick. I saw him as being refreshingly honest. Though the two are often hard to tell apart.

He does probably get a lot of kids like that, so I assume he'd be kind of tired of dealing with them by now.

He also gave him to opportunity to do something helpful, the data entry, but was quickly rebuffed by someone that obviously want's a hero job that he can wear on his sleeve.

Re: Voluntourism
I also like the genuine surprise to "I'm not doing this for a scholarship" response. I was expecting a more "Oh really?" reaction.
Re: Voluntourism
As a person who has lived in Africa for 13 months volunteering, I'm not quite sure what to think of this. I'm not disagreeing with the message that a volunteer should have something concrete to offer, but my severe case of volunteeritis flares up when an act of (attempted) generosity gets laughed at, even if it is misplaced. However, I could be suffering from a case of offensensitivity so don't mind me.
