I note that there was no "Stay out Matt" posters at Starbucks. Is that because the shareholders would be upset by the 27% drop in quarterly earnings?

Also, was that Spot over Grahams shoulder in the opening reflection?

Silly LRR- you have fanbase to fall back on! Just ask us for our passwords and make a database out of it. You'll never worry about wifi again!

Best video in a while. Hoping that this is the start of a series.

Was the reflection in the beginning actually a reflection, or did you need to add it in in post? (Not sure how reflective iPads are and how well that reflection shows up on camera.)

Edit: Just noticed that the last 3 videos have each had a word in the title in common with the previous video. I wonder how long that will last. :-D

I like the re-use of the "Twitter Abuse" music for the Kathleen segment.

I just have to say this is a brilliant video. After watching, I couldn't help but remember all the times I've had frustrations with 'free' wifi when at airports/cafes/etc. You guys really hit the nail on the head, as always.

I loved the "free public wifi" explanation. I see that almost every time I open the network page.

Loved it. Kathleen OWNED her scene.

Part of me wishes it had been done as a '70s style training video, ala How to Talk Like a Pirate. Be... Because there was no WiFi in the '70s. And I find that idea hilarious.

Victorian squad cars have their own WiFi? It must be nice to have a job as a police officer there.

The public wireless in my city's downtown actually isn't terrible. We were also the first place in Canada to put wifi on our buses, and so long as you tailgate behind one of the newer ones, it usually works.

Arg, I hate looking for Wifi to use. I remember a while back, around Christmas, I was looking for a wifi hotspot to use to connect to for about 5 seconds to activate Steam Offline mode in the car. We stopped by a Wendy's for a red light. I connected and tried Steam. No luck. Opened my internet browser, got past the gateway agreement, and was about to start in offline mode when the light turned and we drove away from it. I was annoyed by that.

Stupid stories aside, good video. Doesn't work for people in the country like myself, but it seems like none of those really seemed like they 'worked' all that well... which might have been the point.

Brilliant. This practically sums up my entire wifi-based life, especially the free ones leading to gateway pages. £5 per hour? Really?

I also laughed out loud at the Graham banned notice on the coffee shop :D

Ah, airport Wifi. I have dealt with it a lot, what with staying in layovers for 17 hours and 30 hours respectively (and another time 24 hours, but that time I didn't stay in the airport as the airline provided us with hotel rooms).

The ones that requires you to log back in every 30, 60 or 120 minutes are annoying, but fine. The ones that require you to pay ten bucks are worse.

If I want wifi, I usually go to a place that has it, buy the cheapest thing I can and stay all day. It's still worth it I feel, even if it's not free.

On a cruise I went on last fall (which went right into the tail end of huricane Irene), they charged $35 for an hour of internet or $21 per meg on phones. I had to access it to make sure I wasn't kicked from my classes due to non-payment (I had been). Cost me over $5 for eight minutes.

I normally do the same if I'm somewhere where I can't get internet. Go somewhere that has it like Starbucks, buy something, then just use it till I want to leave. Had to do that a couple years back when a nasty ice storm knocked out my power for a week.

I doubt it, blindmonk.

I did really enjoy this, though. It was both well done and broadly marketable to internetfolk. Hopefully you guys can get some circulation out of this.

Hey, you guys know what public building tends to have free computer/internet/wifi access, and can be probably be found in a location near you? A LIBRARY.

Why yes, I do work in one. And yes, we do have free public wifi. No gateway page, no password. Just sit down and log in.

This was gold. My personal favourites were the signs outside Starbucks and the evil laughter, particularly for the WiFi router that was actually a printer. :D

Incidentally, is Starbucks that bad? I seem to recall at least one occasion where I ate food at Starbucks and it wasn't awful. Although it may have left me with indigestion...

Re: Timelady: I have done this.

When Nintendo did a WiFi event for Pokemon HG/SS (such events were uncommon in the US at the time), I was operating on a network that only did ethernet. So I walked over to the library, found a comfy spot in the stacks, and downloaded a Mew. Fun stuff.
