Desert Power
Re: Desert Power
Also, there's one kind of cute bit of lyrical cleverness I'm especially proud of
Can you guess?

Re: Desert Power
Is it... "Two mics open, yo, QWOP and Derp. Ready for your call if the bussing soundboard works?" Seems like a clever reference to the call-in style of the QWOPline and the Derpline, as well as the Skype audio mishaps.

*checks own previous post*
...why did I confuse Johnny for Ian? Huh. Weird; maybe I was still a little dazed after a really hellish day at work (first appreciable snowfall forecasted so the local media got all doomsday'ish, and subsequently you saw HUGE amounts of gullible people in the store stocking up for the End Times. )
Funny that I'm more lucid now past midnight than I was in the early evening.
ANYWAYS, I've managed to get theE video to keep re-playing automatically; all is good.
(and I've got the next four days off - you MIGHT find "Desert Power" is gonna end up as the Escapist's most played video, soon )
ADDENDUM: "lyrical cleverness"...it's in the stinger, isn't it?
Nah, I'm enclined to agree with Under_Score...

Re: Desert Power
It's actually a much more simple turn of phrase I'm pleased with.

Re: Desert Power
"Someone new comes - better take 'em To The Store"?
"No Matt should have all this glower"? (although it was already discussed earlier...)
"With drivers crashing left and right, but mostly right..."?
Or is it "Four-hundred and forty thousand bucks"

I'm inclined to think it's this or the following line.

"Auction light's on, there's lots to behold."
LOTS.

Oooo; nice double entendre!
I'm sure would've gotten to that if I hadn't fallen asleep!
(and ironically, you are probably asleep as I post this. )

Graham: You are too subtle or something, as I got the "auction lots" meaning before the "lots of stuff" meaning.

Re: Desert Power
Is there actually a gif for strike two?
the opening of that line sounds very muffled to me, the "four" can barely be heard in the mix to my ears.empath wrote:"Four-hundred and forty thousand bucks"

Re: Desert Power
There is - if you punish Geoff, he might share it with you (there's even a 'strike three' one).
And yeah, the backing vocal line (or whatever that term is) IS rather distorted and I really only twigged on what it's supposed to be due to context - sounds like "-hundred and forty thousand bucks"
But, there's plenty of awesome mainstream songs out there with muffled or hard to hear lyrics. *cough-cough-kissthisguy-wrappeduplikeadouche-cough-cough*

I don't honestly know what "kissthisguy" is a reference to.

Re: Desert Power
Arguably the most famous (and common) misheard lyric - "'scuse me while I kiss the sky" from Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze.
Technically, it's even a little before MY time, so you can be forgiven.

Re: Desert Power
That line (in Desert Power) messes me up for a different reason. After "power," "glower" and "shower", I'm expecting "dollars", because it's closer to rhyming than "bucks".
Re: Desert Power
Following the convention of the original, it doesn't rhyme.
The original line is "21st Century Schizoid Man"... which I never knew until looking up the lyrics.

I like how the original lyric...

Also, great, now I'm on a YT rap loop.

It's a sample from the 70's prog rock song of the same name by King Crimson. Which, weirdly enough, I just discovered and started listening to less than a week before Desert Power came out. (Which is mildly amusing to only myself, probably. )
