AWESOME: We... shot this!

Postby Graham » 25 Aug 2006, 19:55

Because we liken ourselves to the Beasties in most things, the title is reference to their similarly titled live performance movie "AWESOME: I... shot that!"

This is the first public performance for 64K ever, and the first thing any of us have ever performed in a LoadingReadyRun capacity. Morgan's first time on a stage too.

We think it went very well.

Come see our show. Alternately, buy the DVD.

As you wish:

Offa the monitor and onto your stage

We're live

In the flesh

And we're bringin' the rage

We're breathin' out fire and our quality's tight

Live at the Fringe on a Saturday night

Knock knock

Who's there?

It's 64k

G*Star

JP

And our man Ice Tray

A C64 is our only DJ

And we're reppin this show 'cuz it's a dope ass play

My name's JP and I'm the Yoda of rhyme
Do or do not, my beats'll serve my time
For the crime, my bounty's high, even for Metroid Prime
Tho when the hunter brings me in she'll find there is no try.

I’m Ice Tray, bitches, and I’m here to stay
For the play and every day we gonna blow you away
I’m 1337, they say, even for 64k
And I may stay to play even past my Birthday

G*Star, getting far on the loading-ready-radar
I rhyme sublime and I’m shoutin’ out to homestar
I don’t play drums or an electric guitar
But I pimp beats fresher than Xibit pimps cars

Our poise and dramatic flair

Are astronomical

I can’t think of a good rhyme
For astronomical

That’s kinda week dude,

I‘m sorry I know

Let’s cut to the hook so we can restart the flow

All around the town

the hype is abounding

all about a show whose sound

It’s asounding

Never past due

Never veering off the mission

Clever to a point past the price of admission

The loading ready crew has been slaving for weeks

And also playing WOW and DS light cuz it’s chique

And also D&D and sometimes Oblivion

Dota and Burnout while talking on Trillian.

I’m not gonna pretend

We’re always on-task

We’re white

And we’re lazy

Our initiative’s ass

But still our jokes pass, in fact, they kick ass
They out and outclass each and every impasse.

Ice Tray, G*Star and the electric JP
Redefine the rhymes of most dope MCs
And loadingreadylive’s set to do the same
To each and every show that ours makes look lame

We set aflame the stage, and ignite the script page
Not afraid to engage, either calm or enraged
Our message is aged and it won’t be assuaged
It’s not war we wage but a dramatic RAMPAGE

We’re bringing down the house from doors to proscenium
And sorry guys but I screwed up the rhyme again

Man what is with you?
Your beats are all GAY
That word’s not meant as a pejorative, ‘kay?

We’re almost done now

Just one more verse

Next time, make note, we need to write and rehearse.

[hook]

We droppin out verse

Just like Will Shakespeare

Gonna get paid

Cuz our rhymes are out the stratosphere

We know tonight’s show is gonna blow off ya faces

Put Beckett and Stoppard back in their places

Arthur Miller is filler

Caryl, Churchill take a number

Oscar Wilde we’re earnest while in death do you slumber

Not even Eddie Albie can match our styles

We’re mixing Oleanna with a dose of Bured Child

Got six point four-k psychosis on our minds

And our lines aren’t mighty, they’re explosive land minds

So let’s get it on, let’s get the show started

Dude you had more lines, what are you, retarded?

I find that offensive,

Yeah man, that’s just rude

Well come on, he started it,

Yeah, lose the ‘tude

There could be people here

who find that word offensive

Woah

Calm down!

Now don’t get defensive!

What I’m not defensive

There you go again!

I’ll mess you up, bro

C’mon, bring the pain!!

We gotta throw down backstage for a while

We’ll settle this like men, STREET FIGHER STYLE!

Ken,

Ryu,

I guess I’m Chun-Li

Enjoy the show, folks,

In one . . . two . . . THREE

The sound quality was a bit poor compared to what we have had recently but then you were on location.

Very good, but anointed lyrics are in order.

edit:

That was fast ...

I was wondering about that. How many of you have stage experience? Watching this video made me miss it. Now I want to look into community theater, but I totally gotta find a job with a static schedule first.

Graham was in a few productions with the Oak Bay High Community Theatre Society, Bill was in a musical called Circus two years ago, and I have about ten years of stage experience, though it's about eight years stale, for the most part. I'm also currently a non-performing member of a local improv troupe.

I think that's about it (at least for the cast of LRL. Some LRR contributors--Andy--have reams of stage experience.)

Flawless Victory

Postby Daniel » 25 Aug 2006, 22:04

Flawless victory indeed. 64k proves it can bumrush the show live, similar to how the Spice Girls proved they were not just studio creations during their October 12, 1997 concert in Istanbul. Exactly like that. Though the sound was soso, so that the lyrics post was very welcome, the visual aspect was beyond all expectations, with the two-camera, partly handheld action just as dynamic as the group. Now I really wish I could be there to see the show! Looking forward to an amazing video document.

I got only 1/3 of the video game/technology references. That makes me feel old.

I just watched it again while reading the lyrics, and my appreciation has grown. This is probably the first rap song to namecheck Edward Albee and Tom Stoppard (Though as I recall DMX has also been known to rock the Sam Shepard references). Also points for working in the word "proscenium", if not rhyming it. (kryptonium? "scene one"?)

I thought I heard the Oleanna reference the other night at the preview, but oh man, I can't believe there was a Caryl Churchill reference! I was in Top Girls by Caryl Churchill this past year. I didn't even hardly notice the camera's at the preview during your bit, great work!

That sneak peak was awesome. Hoping to make it down sometime.
Read the TC's review this morning. They used "amatuerish" like it's a bad thing. You should burn the newspaper on stage, you know, so firefighters show up and then you'll have special guests.
Hope you have a good run!
