Yeah. Though it does make me wonder: how long as Yummies Corp owned Action 9 News? Because it seems like they're well on the path to global domination.

My one question... Is the Giga-King skinable? What sort of custom skins can we apply to it, Can I get a Mythic Dragon Giga King?
I tap my Mana and Summon the all powerful Slifer the Sky Dragon!

... What do you mean I can't... Oh right MTG...

Fine, in that case, I tap my Mana... Royal Flush!

God, that sounds awful. I mean, it may be a decent game, but it's not chess anymore.

Yeah, I saw that game being promoted last time I turned on my XMBC machine, and downloaded the demo. Haven't actually checked it out yet... to be honest, I'm a little scared to.

Because chess added ridiculous diagonal movement you switched to checkers? Which is 100% diagonal movement? That's probably wise. Also, when you try to castle in checkers people get all bent out of shape for some reason.

We have 100% Spot appearances so far in the YRR of LRR. If he's in next week's sketch, that'll be five in a row, tying the all time record.

That is all.

ok. im honestly surprised that nobody has made a pdf of Chess 4.5.2 rules and stats yet. A'la Viking Secret Wildcard Poker. I'll do it if you want me to. Just give me the word.

...oh...

...my...

...gawd...

I think I have to go to the hospital; it seems I pulled a muscle in my cheek from all the grinning! :P

That was PERFECT!

The "better than most local network news shows" opening sequence, the "mass media is owned by Big Business", the jab at the gaming industry, the...delivery (Paul as an AMAZING 'straight-faced-while-playing-all-the-punchlines', and Graham as the 'wait...what the HELL is this? I never expected THIS?!?' newscaster {the glace off camera about 1/2 in seals it } )

The stinger, the...EVERYTHING!!!

Thank you; this is going in my 'intro to LRR' short list! :D

Awesome video, guys. I like how A9N is now owned by Yummies. XD

Also, that whole "Chess 2" thing sounds interesting. The thing I most like about it is the King crossing the middle thing. Other than that, I'm slightly skeptical, although willing to try it out.

I notice that in every video but I always forget about it by the time the video ends. XD

Great vid! New A9 intro was awesome. Glad white finally got nerfed.

I was looking at Chess 2 a few days ago and the king crossing the middle rule seemed like the worst thing about it to me. So much of what chess (4.5.1) is about is the endgame where the king becomes very active, often moving all around the board. When there's so much space on the board it's often hard to visualize what your opponent can do 5 moves ahead.

If the king moving across the middle will end every game, it seems like you will never get to those deep endgames that require so much calculation.
Is it safe?

How does the Giga king work? Do you have to take all four squares it occupies in order to capture it? When it moves, does it completely vacate it's previous squares, or does it rumble across the field like some fell behemoth?
Can you even put the Giga king in check?

I do enjoy that the addition of a leveling system gives new opportunities for people who spend to much gawddamn time playing chess. I hope the en passant bug will be fixed in the next patch!

You guys, if you're trying to figure out how Chess 4.5.2 would actually work... you've missed the point of this video. :P

I was wondering when someone was going to pick that up. I also would have accepted "but 3.2.7 came out [x] centuries ago, just how freaking old are you?".

Whats so very impressive to me is that Paul is doing all of this without his glasses, so you know he has all of this loaded in his short term memory banks, not just reading it off cue cards or some sort of prompter.

Such Dedication, Very Funny, Much Laughter. Wow.

It would also rule out one of my favorite things -- the king hunt. Winning because your opponent's pieces chased it across the board into a mating net seems illogical to me.

As for the video, my only complaint is that FIDE was mispronounced (it should be "fee-day"). FIDE has been trying to modernize the game, though -- for example, they've instituted drug tests, imitating other professional sports (though why they feel they should be testing for illegal narcotics, marijuana, and caffeine is frankly beyond me).

But, it's an acronym… I don't see how it's supposed to be said "fee-day" at all.

If anything (assuming a French speaker) it would be "eff-ee-day-uhh".

Illogical though it might be, "fee-day" is the pronunciation I've heard from other chess players (and Wikipedia does back me up here); I suppose it's just one that's stuck (i.e. I-urn, floor-ide).
