The Deal

Postby Graham » 06 Apr 2007, 11:35

We had a lot of very silly challenges in shooting this one. We'll cover it all in the LRRcast this week.
A good end product I'd say, though.

It gets dark awful fast in Victoria, doesn't it.

I laughed pretty hard, I particularly enjoy the beginning, with Graham walking out of where Paul's head blocks. Thats some fine camera work there, boys.

Hey kids, there is a separate Korea website right now, so there is a new comic, but it doesn't link out from the main page just yet.
To see the new korea go to: http://korea.loadingreadyrun.com.

Lol... Hillarious!

I noticed that right before Paul ask's Morgan if he has any drugs, its still quite light out, and as soon as morgan turns around, its very dark.

But thats obviously not something you can avoid!

Why doesn't Paul just hit Graham with a crowbar and take his money?
Then he can buy twice as many drugs.

edit: Woah cool. That 'Morgan's Eyes' camera angle was just like off Peep Show or something. Great shot. Was that hard to do?

Freaking hilarious. I was pretty sure that James was gonna want in on the deal when he walked up, but what happened was equally funny. I love that little suspenseful moment right before Paul and Graham book it out of there.

Like many others, I did notice the fastest lighting change ever, but it only made me WTF for a second. Oh, and it would've been kickass (but more work for you guys) if Detective Riley made an appearance at the end with James.

Nice job overall, guys 8)

Time sure does fly when you're in a parking garage. ^_^

Sadly, that's probably how a drug deal would go down if I were involved.
I can't think of a signature.

most expensive Tylenol ever.

It sounded like more than two pills in that bottle, though.

That was a riot!

I'm guessing that only the top layer was real money stacked on paper cut to size.

Decent video; I especially liked the part where Paul asked Morgan if he had any drugs - Paul's expression was priceless. A few questions, though:

- Did you only have enough (fake) money to fill either the suitcase or the bag so you switched them around?
- Are non-LRR commitments the only reason you can't shoot earlier in the day when the lighting differences aren't as great?
- Was the part where Paul quickly changed 'nice day we're having' to 'night, night' scripted or was it actually supposed to be daylight when that scene was shot?
- How high up is that freakin' parking garage?!
- Do drug dealers actually deal in Canadian 20's?
- Are any of the above questions going to be addressed in the LRRCast?

P.S. Guard with the awesome Rocky impression?
To LRR is human.

I liked it :)

And ya... guard with Rocky impression? I'm guessing he let you shoot there?

Oh, and what was in the bag of "drugs"?

yes. that cash was totally real, and not illegally forged at all.

Anachronism wrote:- Did you only have enough (fake) money to fill either the suitcase or the bag so you switched them around?

yes.

scheduling is a nightmare - frankly, the only reason we can do it is we all make it a priority. in this case though, the lighting issue was the result of a dead battery in the camera requiring a second day of shooting. also, a pre-screening of grindhouse. the last half of that video was filmed at 11PM on Wednesday. the first half at like 7 on Tuesday.

Anachronism wrote:- Was the part where Paul quickly changed 'nice day we're having' to 'night, night' scripted or was it actually supposed to be daylight when that scene was shot?

the original line was "nice weather we're having" the line was ad-libbed because Paul botched the line, and we thought it was funnier. it wasn't done intentionally because of the lighting.

Anachronism wrote:- How high up is that freakin' parking garage?!

we were on the 4t or 5th floor. the garage has 6, and a basement.

Anachronism wrote:- Do drug dealers actually deal in Canadian 20's?

i suspect so.

Anachronism wrote:- Are any of the above questions going to be addressed in the LRRCast?

lol, probably.

But that was actually pretty interesting.

it's not like we aren't going to have crap to talk about in the podcast. besides, I expect the security guard to be a significant portion of our discussion of this video.

I would certainly assume that Canadian drug dealers deal in Canadian twenties.

When James went "Aha!" at Morgan I lost it. Too good.

I was totally expecting the Graham detective character to jump in and say or do something as soon as I saw James come on scene.

The video was awesome this week guys. I don't think that was cocaine, to whoever thought it could have been. I hypothesize that it was really Carpet Fresh or a dvd case wrapped in shitloads of paper and saran wrap. I say this because the LRR crew isn't dumb enough to self-incriminate if they actually are coke fiends.

Though they may be Coke (TM) fiends or something, but that's another story.

The only thing that actually bothered me in this vid that the seagulls stopped sqwaaking or whatever it is they do. Probably because of the day to night switch.

I loved the plot. Hated the lighting, though. Before sunset, the light outside washed out Graham and Paul, making them hard to see, and even when it became dark outside, it's as though the camera kept adjusting to the brightness of whatever it was aimed at, causing constant luminosity shifts. I found it distracting.

Ironically, I also think getting a better microphone has lead to a decrease in the average quality of sound in the vids.

Good writing and acting, not-so-good production.

a pre-screening of grindhouse

Speaking of which, how was it?
