Looks like the flint he might use to light the torch. But I'm probably wrong.

Speaking as some who once used an oxyacetylene torch that is the flint you use to light the torch.

I'd say this is the best video and editing feat I've seen in a long time. Love it!

Plus, my girlfriend managed to recruit more viewers to teh site based solely on this vid ;)

On and off for about 2 years now, I think. I used to have a problem with it falling out, so there were stints where I didn't have it in.

I'd have a bad habit of everytime I went drinking, I would chew on it. Not like I was trying to eat it, but just playing around with it too much. This would cause the bead to most times fall out, because I'd be so shit-faced I wouldn't realize how hard I was biting down on it.

I've been attending group therapy and the problem seems to be cured.

I'm kinda scared of fire indoors - candles, matches, bunson burners, stuff like that. A fireplace or a kickass bonfire doesn't bother me at all, it's weird. I don't know why!

And the flint scares me because a) that is what we always used to light bunson burners and those things scare me a ton and b) someone kept lighting the flint while we were sitting on the couch. Sparks. I don't like them.

All I can say it that us getting videos of this quality for free is amazing. That's one of the funniest things I've seen in the last few weeks - not just on the internet but in general.

Brilliant.

Wow, okay.

Yes, to (hopefully) put the debate to rest, what Alex is holding is a torch-starting flint striker. It's like a huge safety pin - the square thing at the top is a cup-shaped bit of metal, into which both ends of the body attach. By moving one of the "legs" across the bottom of the cup, you get a big bunch of sparks, which you can then use to light your torch. I seem to see these most around oxyacetelene torches.

You can see a much better picture of one here, along with some really amusingly bad grammar.

Interestingly, "flint" hasn't really been flint for a long time - if I'm remembering right they're more usually pyrophoric materials, specifically something to do with cerium or lathanium...

I invented one. It's a major hobby on the Internet.

Or, to put it in another (more "truthy" way) I picked an extraordinarily bad turn of phraseology.

My bad.
