I've got a guess, but if I say it, they won't do it.

I really want them to do it.

Diva Deva wrote:Background
On the evening of Evensong 398, police were called to the Diva Deva's's home after she refused to relinquish custody of her children to her husband's representatives. She was hospitalised at the temple of Pelor after she "appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance," though divinations showed negative for any illicit substances. She was held for psychiatric evaluation for two days. Pending a Feastmonth 19 hearing, Sherrif Scottion Gurron issued an order on Evensong 14 stating that her visitation rights have been suspended indefinitely. On Evensong 31, a court placed the diva deva under temporary co-conservationship of her father Heironeus and adventurer Gord the rogue, giving them complete control of her assets. As a result of an order placed by her cleric, she was takien to the temple of Wee Jas to be put into a trapt the soul spell for the second time that month. On Feastmonth 1, a mind bondage spell was issued against Samuel Luffiti, a prominent figure in the diva deva's life. She was released from the temple on Feastmonth 6, amid speculation that she was cursed although the temple records are classified, and no confirmation has been made. Her parents expressed disappointment and concern at the decision to release her. She has regained some visitation rights after coming to an greement with her husband and his counsel

What? I was bored, smeg off.

I loved the "this kitchen is bagel free" sign in the background.

I support the continued tradition of having some reference to the previous video in there somewhere.

As for my bet on the next reference, I want to put my money on the song being played by someone at some point.

I no longer play D&D when they brought out 3.5 I gave it away, I now play rifts, D&D now feels like my first RPG in comparison.
i still really love D&D but i feel its to simple now, rifts now fills the void.

I've been playing a lot of World of Darkness lately. I like the D10 system a lot more.

Thank you.

You make concrete the vague concerns I have about the new edition. I've been playing for longer than I care to admit, and am always worried about 'dumbing down'.

You said it in a way far more witty and eloquent than I could ever manage - I'm now going to use this vid as a "see here for what I mean" when I discuss the issue. :)

I think I'll give it a try. The trial rules they've demonstrated and put together seem like they could steer it away from its dumb, over-complex predecessors in 1-3E.

Besides, it should be somewhat simpler and aimed at a younger audience. With the age of intellectual maturity becoming younger and younger, it would be stupid of WOTC to not change their games to reflect the same, while still retaining a modicum of their complexity, as it seems to be doing from what I've been seeing.

See? Your critics are impressed with the production values.
What was it that somebody (I think it was Paul) said in one podcast?

Brilliant and amazing. My group of friends and i are kinda looking forward to what 4E has to offer.
since this is a small post i will leave you with another song for another time,
"Ring Their Bells", or "The Munchkin's Carol"
--by the Sea Wasp
(to the tune of Jingle Bells)

"Slashing through the Orcs
With a good two-handed blade
Over corpses we go
And through the gore we wade
Mace on helmet rings
Making bodies fly
What fun to sing our SLAYING song
And watch these suckers die!

Chorus:
Oh, ring their bells with swords and spells
Don't let 'em get away!
We're brave and bold for fame and gold
We'll make a lot today!
Oh, ring their bells with swords and spells
Don't let 'em get away!
We'll hack and slash and blast and trash
And blow these dudes away!

Crashing through the door
Into the dragon's nose
Our mage whips out a Cone of Cold
And out its fire goes!
Elven bowstrings sing
Making balrogs fall
And our thief finds a secret door
Into the treasure hall!

(Chorus)

Then appears the Lich
With his demon guard
Our wizard yawns and wishes
We'd run into something HARD...
He begins to cast
His 19th level spell
That damn Lich throws a Gate at us
And drops us all in Hell!

(Chorus)

We appear in Hell
In front of Satan's Throne
Our cleric waves us out the door
And takes him on alone!
Satan's legions don't
Want to let us go
Our Techno pulls a bazooka out
And NUKES 'em 'til they GLOW!

Oh, ring their bells with prayers and spells
Don't let 'em get away!
We're brave and bold and CRAZED, we're told
To think we'll live the day!
Oh, ring their bells with swords and shells
Don't let 'em get away!
We'll hack and slash and blast and trash
And blow these dudes away!
Yes, we'll hack and slash and blast and trash
And drag our loot away!!"

I didn't laugh, until we started singing about eviscerating orcs. Then the rest had me in stitches. I'm going to sing that song next Monday at my d&d session.

I was pretty meh about this video, but then again I don't know anything about D&D, so I probably didn't get all of it. The breakdown:

I :D'd at:
  • Stopmotion
  • Tally's song
  • Kind Flayer
  • Awesome awesome awesome illustrations. Need wallpapers.
  • Basically every page of that Monster Manual was the funniest thing ever
  • D&D-Simon-Checkers-Chess'n'Ladders
  • "It's this ball."

I :? 'd at:
  • Matt and Jer's shirts. I get the idea that they were supposed to be funny, but I didn't get the jokes
  • The EA/Monopoly thing
  • The Splat Book

I :( 'd at:
  • The unfunny, recycled T-Shirt ad.
  • Matt and Jer's long-winded spiels. Some of the phrases Matt used were [possibly intentionally] clunky to my ear, like the redundant sounding "when he approached me about the blah approach to 4th edition", or the nearly unparsable-on-first-listen "skewing 4E to 5 to 8 year olds".
  • Jer's little hiccup at 0:35. On second thought, that's pretty fucking nitpicky.
  • The whole classroom bit. So slow. Also, that kid had disturbing man-hands.

All in all, a fairly well made video with a fun song and a great punchline, but I'm certainly not its target audience.

I had to watch 0:35 about 3 times to see it, so yeah, nitpicky.

This was a good video. Always fun when you guys take a moment to speak to slightly smaller demographics.

I was more of a Paranoia guy myself
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoia_(role-playing_game)
I played more of a "Monty Python style D&D" (getting to immortal in one week ... hey, saving the world from Tiamat and the council of dragons strictly through debate and persuasion with a Viking is worth a lot of experience! :P LOL). But this was still funny since RPG's are pretty much RPG's.

Although, I guess I'm out of the loop on this "4th Edition controversy." Any references for me :?:

Yes, the song does easily get stuck in the head. :? Gelatenous monster was pure win. :!:
