All you really need to know is that MGS games have a history of weird bosses. That is honestly the only "in-joke" part of it.

and to be fair, we wrote the foundation of that in-joke right into the video.

I have never played a MGS game either, but from been on the internet I know of the weird bosses thing. All-around funny, and not MGS-specific at all from my view, just parody-ing all the weird bosses that can show up in games.

Also, I expected The Amitiveness to score with Laura.

Goddamn, I thought that was Bill at the end and I got so excited. Until I read the credits. Boo!

Also, I've yet to play MSG, but just the thought of Snake being the guy that is interviewing those that he will be fighting in the game was a pretty funny concept.

for the record, anyone who hasn't played MGS you have no excuse. it's one of the single greatest series ever produced, and you can get the MGS 3-pack (incl. mgs 1, 2, and 3) for 29.99 at any game store.

no excuse.

none.

¨Graham really looks good as an old Snake.

On another note; Nerf-Gun Bongo really sounds like a boss from the first MG games, so it's not that far off.

Still; awesomeness all around

Matt, says the guy with hundreds of unopened video games :P

Anyways, the reference this time is in the opening ad: the Sandstorm D&D supplement

Snake-Graham definitely is awesome^3. The Cardboard Man suit seems to have sustained some damage in the torso though.

I agree with how well The Amativeness was pulled off, Nerf-gun Bongo and Thin Man almost seem like plausible bosses for costume alone.

Also, a boss geared towards lust and sexual attraction? Doesn't the gamer demographic have little if any as it is, now we have to vilify it?

The only remaining question is: How many games will they make before Snake dies of old age? Will he be portrayed in more games even if he has to do drive-bys with a wheelchair-mounted rocket launcher?

Aside from some references to past videos, it's the only joke, period.

I wouldn't use this video to introduce someone to the site.

I didn't get it. :( I wasn't even sure what "MGS4" was before I looked it up. The video game videos always fly over my head.

Interesting villains, though! And I enjoyed the cardboard man cameo at the beginning. :)

I will agree that everyone should play the Metal Gear Solid games. If I were to write a treatise on the unique capabilities of video games as an art form, (as opposed to just being a game that happens to contain art, ie: movies, 3D models, music, etc.) there's a couple moments in the MGS games I would have to cite.

That said, the story can get kind of goofy sometimes, especially with some of the more outlandish villains. After MGS2, I came up with a bunch of my own goofy villains. One was called "The High Man," he was a Rastafarian who walked on stilts during his boss battle. There was another guy who had been raised by bees, so he would constantly tell you random facts about bees.

I don't know if this will make it into the podcast, but you forgot one very key auditionee: Ned Bitterman.

After a life of attempting to solve the world's computer gliches with no assistance or gratitude, Ned loses his mind and becomes hellbent on making sure the CEO's of the world remember who he is and what he did for them. His plan: aim every nuclear weapon on the offices and residences of every CEO of the Fortune 500 by reprogramming error #8928 into the GPS of said missiles, rendering them under his control. The data disk is on its way to NORAD and will arrive there in 48 hours. Once uploaded to the system, Ned needs only enter the passcode and the world will be his.

- Deadly Bagel Gun
- Damaging 4-Olfactory Reflex Capsules (D4-ORCs)

With the consoles (and PC) I own, it would only be possible for me to play MGS: The Twin Snakes for my GCN/Wii. I've looked into getting that but haven't bought it yet. None have come out for PC AFAIK so that rules that out. And believe me when I say that the thought actually crossed my mind to buy a PS3 almost exclusively for MGS4.

To tell the truth, I do feel a bit deprived...

Easily the best of the most recent media parodies! Awesome job guys! Everyone nailed their part from what I could tell, and Graham's David Hayter voice was pretty good too.

What that actually Matt doing his own intro/monologue voice? If so, I'm impressed.
There are things in this world that I dislike. One of the things I dislike the most is a serious argument, well constructed, delivered by someone who makes themselves difficult to respect.

As someone who doesn't play video games at all except for MarioKart and Elite Beat Agent, I can say that it was still funny. I didn't think it would be, but it was.

I think my favourite part was when they struck the pose and sidled out of the room. It worked pretty well because there was a lot of physical humour, and the jokes were about the interactions, not the characters themselves - it didn't matter that Graham was the main character from that particular game, it just mattered that he was a badass dude who was looking for some villains to fight.

...And no-one has told me how lameass my joke is yet. I thus assume it was one of my rare "Non-Dumbass" moments.

I knew they exist, I just knew it!

I've never played Metal Gear so my knowledge of the game is very limited, but even I enjoyed this video. (Yeah, ok. It was mainly for the LRR references.)

Perhaps it's just wishful thinking but I could've sworn that was Bill at the end.
emma wrote:It worked pretty well because there was a lot of physical humour, and the jokes were about the interactions, not the characters themselves.

Agreed & well put. For someone who had not played either game at the time of the LRR parodies, this video worked much better for me than GTA IV. That's not to say references need to be dumbed down from the original subject matter for wider appeal, I just appreciate the effort that went into making the whole thing funnier.
