Heres the backstory of 420 and the end of the discussion.
Basically these students would go get high every day by this statue at 4:20 after school and it started to become more and more know. Basically they refered to "420" as time to get high. Somehow it spread and got associated with the date purely by coincidence. Nothing to do with the birthday of Adolf Hitler.
These days 420 ensures weed protests throughout the nation, the largest ones generally happening in Boulder Colorado on the campus of Colorado University. Look up videos of 420 CU and you will find PLENTY of examples of how much weed is smoked in Colorado.
I would also like to point out that the anniversary of the Columbine massacres is also 4/20, however I don't think thats why cannabis is celebrated on that day in Colorado either. That may be why there are plenty of pot protests held there, the whole make love not war, er smoke weed don't shoot people thing works well? I'm gonna go smoke another one and think about it. Oooooh look, cheese.........
