The LHC
Now that they've shut it down until the spring we realize the timeline is off, but no matter.

Good stuff, but does the LHC do gerbils?

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that

Yes! Times like this I'm glad I live alone because otherwise I would have awakened everyone in the house with my laughter. Definitely worth staying up for.
Graham's beard makes him look a bit older. Does it naturally grow that way or does he trim it down off his cheeks?
I saw the forum post about the hamsters earlier this week but even then I wasn't expecting the primary joke in this video. Which was made even funnier since the first half of the vid leading up to it was fairly serious.
So, since the anchor raised concern for "this Great Nation" & the real LHC lies under the Franco/Swiss border, can we assume that A9 News is based in either France or Switzerland?
Also, Attack of the Radioactive Hamsters From a Planet Near Mars
P.S. I can't stand Matt's new overpriced haircut. Please refilm the ad.

Great video, but I'm sorry that the catastrophe of the LH(adron)C has already happened:

Very good switcheroo there. Didn't see it coming.
You might want to tweak the credits on the video page, though. You aren't crediting Jer or James' appearances in the video.

I've seen that video a number of times, but whatever happened to the supposed live video feed (linked in the LRR LHC thread) that showed the facility being sucked into its own black hole? I've been wanting to share that around some more.

As the director of science operations at the LoadingReadyRun particle accelerator (LRRPAC) I feel I can explain this. The acceleration of rodents and the observation of them near light speed is the result of the use of huge quantities of Phail.
Seriously something need not be metallic to have magnetic properties. All materials respond in some way to magnetic fields although ferromagnetic materials respond the most dramatically.
However this is not what happens in a particle accelerator. In an accelerator magnets are used to bend and focus the beam of charged particles being accelerated rather than speed them up. A magnetic field bends the path of a moving charged particle such as a proton or an electron; it can not speed it up or slow it down.
Rather than using magnets to accelerate the charged particles up to the crazy speeds found in an accelerator, the alternating electric fields of radio waves are used.
As for watching something moving at the speed of light, it can be done with very sensitive detectors and advanced electronics.
We are all made of star dust. However we are also made of nuclear waste.

That was a good video to wake up to! Quite funny once again.
My brother is a physics major so I heard a lot about the particle accelerator as it was being tested and all. He started spouting off all kinds of physics terms that I didn't know what meant...
This video makes more sense to me.
Oh, yeah, Graham... You might want to look into ironing that shirt you're wearing...

Is it safe?
