Nice video.

On a "totally unrelated note," if the world ever hinges on me playing 72 hours straight of any game, then you're all screwed. I can stand about 9 solid hours of video games before I absolutely must do something else.

So in other words, Joan(Joann?) did pretty well. :P

Excellent video. Did not see the twist coming. I too agree that the stumble/stutter kind of made the ad bit worse, but oh well.

Very nice video, I appreciate the use of Kathleen as I feel she's under-utilized (for geographic reasons, I understand). This video once again confirms my choice to abandon WoW after my two-week free trial expired.
The God jokes were great, as were the images of God trying to influence Joan.
A nitpick that I'm not sure if I should put here or in the Site News/Adverts page. For some reason the google adds displayed as a bar of black text in the middle of the screen on this one. Very annoying. I use Safari v 3.1.2 if that helps.

Obvious relation, but Kathleen Joan=Joan d'Arc? (or, wants to.)

alarm clock

Postby sib » 17 Nov 2008, 21:09

this is totally weird, but I have the same alarm clock.

I've had it for more than 15 years. It still works.

Also, two of my friends sat in a queue for 45mins to get on to WoW last weekend. It was sad.

How can you be on the Internet and NOT know that?!

*raises hand*

Why are people playing a game named after an amazed exclamation?

And while we're at it, why do people get so worked up about the round things above angels heads, and the time it take for half of the atoms to decompose in a radioactive materials, and the Greater Toronto Area?

I'm kidding... but not that much.

The Joann spelling is also legitimate, and I have met someone who spelled her name Jo-an and pronounced it Joanne, though I think her parents were some of the dumbest people I've ever met.

Phonetically speaking...

Joan = Joh-Ahn
Joanne = Joh-Ahn-Neh
Joann = Joh-Ahn-N

To get the pronunciation most people give to Joan, it would have to be...

Joen = Joh-Ehn

(If this confuses you, pronounce it quickly, slurring the vowel sounds together. Such combinition of vowel sounds is incredibly prevalent in all languages, despite our not thinking much about it.)

The English language does not always, or even frequently, follow phonetics. If it did, it would be a lot more logical and regular. It's not that people who pronounce a name one way or another are stupid, it's that English itself is a rather broken and stupid language.

Furthermore, all the above names are originally Non-English.

I kinda figured that was the case. I will say that the all-in-one-take strategy really gives the ads that "off the cuff" feeling that works very well. I know once I get me some Christmas money I'm totally buying some Season 4 DVDs! That way I can put on my LRR logo shirt and watch season 4 videos alone all afternoon while crying softly to myself!

Graham wrote:That was like the... 6th take? We were just sick of doing it I think.
It bothers me too if you're curious.

A friend of mine is a mechanical engineer, and he often comments that he is now unable to look around at any sort of engineering product (traffic lights, a building, a wrapper, etc.) without knowing that at some point, one engineer was very frustrated with some aspect of it.

I think that long, rambling story sort of applied. Maybe.
There are things in this world that I dislike. One of the things I dislike the most is a serious argument, well constructed, delivered by someone who makes themselves difficult to respect.

Oh I know what you mean!
I have trouble watching certain movies because I notice things that slip by.

Yeah Kathleen!

Great video.

Though I have to be honest, I thought the opening DVD add pretty much nailed the whole WoW experience.

Mildly related, I see pretty much everything as if I were making it on my computer. I subconsciously apply wiremaps to everything, and then start optimizing them. I also can no longer understand the concept of "solid" except in terms of physical interactions, everything is made up of polygons, and the spaces between them is meaningless. Sometimes it worries me, but then I get distracted by improper bump-mapping.

Oh, and I too can spot CG instantly, and immediately start planning in my head how to re-create and improve the desired effect.

Odd thing is, I haven't done any 3D work in years. I'll see if I can dig some stuff up though. Well, other than my avatar, which took me all of 5 minutes.
