I would say seeing the movie in theatres is worthwhile, but if you see it without reading the graphic novel you're really missing out on the full impact.
The Watchmen movie really neuters the ending, in my opinion.

I find the movie ending far more satisfying, personally, but this not the place.
I hadn't read the GN before I saw the movie. I honestly didn't miss much aside from a couple of subtle references to other plot points that had to be cut out. I don't think it detracted from the movie as a whole at all. It, to me, was kind of like movies with shout outs to other movies. If you get them, awesome, but they're not inherent to enjoyment of the movie.

This is how the Watchmen movie neutered the ending:

I say "neutered" rather than "castrated" because it's subtle, and if you don't pay attention very closely you might miss it. But anyone who's watching The Watchmen (seewutididthar?) as an action movie and not looking deeper than that doesn't get it, IMO.

It's been so long since I read Watchmen and I haven't seen it yet that I only got the Comedian and flowers in-joke thing but not the second one, but that was okay. However, I'm adding my name to the list of people who only thought it was okay till you got to the "Who's Watching the Watchmen Watchers" joke, and then it got a little more awesome, finally ending with the head-poke in flurry of awesome.
As for the T-shirt ad? Several reactions come to mind:
*Damn, I wanna touch Matt's hair now!
*Um.... dude, that was really convincing acting, James. Like, super-convincing. As in... whoa, that was kinda hot.
*If I were any bit creative, I'd make a Shepard Fairey-style portrait of Matt looking smug and hot and turn that into a LRR T-shirt poster.
That is all.

Also Why would your wife have to force you to see this movie? why didnt you want to see it!!!!
Both of those were jokes, dear. ^_^ The first feeding on some popular reactions to the movie (although, seriously, it's a rude surprise if you're reeeeeeal close to the screen at IMAX that first time).
The second is between my wife and I. She's still paying off the kharmic debt for making me see "Memento". In the theatre. On opening weekend. So when she wants to see a "good" movie I take the piss a little. She's geeked for the Star Trek premiere - partly for the source matterial, partly because she has a crush on Simon Pegg.

Don't make me translate my post into Latin... Because I probably could and it would take me HOURS (I'm out of practice and my vocab has suffered from neglect) and I seriously don't want to spend that much time on that.
But yeah good quoting there.
My train of thought is more like a roller coaster that has loop de loops and no safety bars.

Gotcha. The whole please dig thing gave me the impression that this video was entirely only for the views, yo.Graham wrote:Lavos wrote:Video for sake of views/e-peen; did not watch.
Not only are you wrong, you're being a dick about it.
Granted, Matt was hella pimping Digg, but this wasn't written as "zomg watchmen iz current LOLZ".
We write based on stuff we think of, and we did just see Watchmen.
In fact, if we'd actually wanted to latch onto the hype, we would have done the video before the movie came out.

By that definition, half of the videos they've made wouldn't be worth watching.
And honestly, who gives a fuck? If it's funny, then it deserves the views it may or may not get anyway.
Sumimasen, daijobu desuka?
i dont know what's happening anymore
