Must not be a fan of FF VIII?

Sorry, it's the first FF game I played, so I loved it.... And I actually like it's game mechanic better that FF VII. I'm a rebel.

I prefer things like Flight of the Conchords and The Mighty Boosh. Absurd while also having some method to their madness.

FFVIII and I have a... tenuous relationship.

By that I mean I allow it to continue existing solely because the act of erradicating every copy of it from earth is a task so daunting it only marginally outweighs my loathing for that heaping pile of trash.

Well, I'm sorry about that. I could have played the first FF, but by then, I had gone through Atari 2600, Atari 5200, my TRS80, and Comodore64. My parents wouldn't buy the NES or SNES, and the next system I bought was a shiny new N64. It was only, I dunno, about 10 years ago that I actually bought the PlayStation I have now, and I bought it so I could play this great "Final Fantasy" thing. I didn't get FF7 until after. I'm warped by my experience.

And, Matt... I will change my Avvie... Just for you....

I really want to have an in-depth intelligent discussion on the nature of weird in comedy and to flesh out my position on 12oz Mouse, but I don't think this is the thread for it. Maybe I'll saunter over to the General forum and start one there...

ugh... *sigh*. Well I'm not really the person who could explain it well, but there is a story to 12 oz Mouse and none of it is random or exactly meant to be funny. It's not what it seems. Talk to one of those "Church of Ozmo" guys if you want to understand why the show has a cult following. I'm not going to say anything more.

Though.. ...it would be kinda funny to make a large donation to the next Desert Bus on that condition that Matt has to play FF8 while watching 12 oz Mouse until he beats it.

He'll just break the battle system and cakewalk through 98% of the game.

I recall him mentioning in a podcast that the ease with which the battle/junction system was broken was one of his major complaints about the game. Also, the characters are completely shallow and unlikable.

I've played FF8 to completion - over 120 hrs. I hate it for well considered reasons.

My preferred gamebreaker is using three fighters and a red mage in final fantasy, and abusing the power peninsula once you can afford any element-2 spells.

You realise this is Matt we're talking about, right?

I mean, no offence to Matt, but it's been fairly heavily documented even by his own admission that he sucks at virtually all video games, including one that he plays through multiple times each year.

It's also been firmly established the the FF8 batttle system is so broken you can do the above with little to no effort.

That's actually the only FF game I've played. Someday I may get around to playing some of the others, but I'm worried about playing 7 (even though I've seen it played often enough) because of all the hype and godliness it's described with, it's inevitable I'll be let down.

to be fair gunner, I played FF7 long after all the hype and still loved it.

it's got a great story, characters, and gameplay system. Plot goes a bit off the rails at the end, but it's good fun all the way through.

it's clear that FF7 defined the industry standard for RPGs as it's a pretty basic battlesystem, that has been copied and improved upon many times since by games from every corner of the genre, but if you bear in mind that that's the game that started it all you can see pretty clearly why it's so frequently copied and has been seen as so genre defining.

I'm sorry for what I have started here. I repent (not really) and I have changed my Avvie so that Matt can no longer hate my...er...taste?

That did not sound good...

Anyway, I loved Valkyrie Profile far better than any Final Fantasy game anyway...

Fix'd. FFVII's battle system seemed like a natural progression of FFVI... transitive law here...

So that would be all of them right? Especially 9 and 12..

Oh sick burn..

but really.. On the topic of FF7. The only thing that really ruins it is the "sequels."
