Has This Ever Happened to You?

Postby Graham » 28 Apr 2009, 00:54

The music took a long time to get right.

So, I don't know exactly what inspired this one, but it's certainly one of our... darker(?) videos.
Still! Different isn't bad. We like to try new things.

...dare I say the word: 'first'?

And I have to say, that video confused me a bit... I wasn't sure where it was going for a lot of it. It was well done, just a bit hard to follow the premise of it: I get the feeling that repeat watchings may be necessary, as well as listening to the podcast.

Poor Paul! That was so sad. Even though I know (hope!) all that stuff doesn't happen to him, it was still sad! I think it hit home because I've walked into lamp posts and shorted a TV before!

But at least he got his smoothie in heaven! :)

Ok, I laughed out loud - I definitely didn't know what the video was building up to, and the laughs started once Paul's character took the placebo pills, and didn't stop until it was officially over. The best part, IMO, was Paul's character drinking the smoothie after he died. I say great job - different, but definitely excellent.
It looked great too.
And great job with the music, it definitely wouldn't have been as good without the music.

I can say that, yes, this has ever happened to me.

The end where he just gobbles down a bunch of the pills and drops dead as soon as they go into his mouth is probably the best.

Question: Aside from Coraline, what are those posters there?

EDIT: Ah okay, quicktime not up yet. I thought my browser was unable to read it.

So, if people who commit suicide usually go to hell (alledgedly), does this mean he failed in going to hell?

Also yummy-brand stuff seems to be failproof.

Purgatory, actually.
We're expecting a large influx of "If you commit suicide you don't get into heaven!" comments. Please prove me wrong.

But, I'll download it now. At 8KB/s. Woot.

LRRwiki worthy facts
>Paul died again
>Paul walked into a lamppost again
>The return of storyguys vest?
>The same music from 30 Minutes Or Less?

Hm, I smiled throughout this one, I particularly liked Paul walking through the apartment door. Different is the right word, I thought it was in the same vein as Ways To Abuse Shoalin (sp?) and A Day In The Life Of Toast. Also its interesting that Paul often plays the main role when you're focusing on single charcters (burglar/duck video, GTA IV, ect), I guess he's suited.

"and i can take or leave it if i please..."
i love this type of morbid humour. i'm hoping people won't take offense, like in the previous "violent" videos. like others, i was slightly confused in what was happening for the most part, but i loved the ending. the heaven smoothie bit was gold.

I think this is because Paul has a very emotive face. He's very good at creating a character even when there's no dialogue. I think that's impressive. I <3 Paul!

What the hell was that?......

Anyway, great video. Poor Paul, nothing seems to go right for him. Now, if i could only convince all the actors from these adverts and shows:

Ocean Finance;
confused.com;
comparethemarket;
Eastenders;
Coronation Street;
Emerdale;
Cilit Bang;
Vanish;

to take those sure-icide pills my life will be a whole lot better.
Sod it, I'm going to take them my self. Pass the bottle Paul...Paul...hey Paul. Great, you're dead again and you didn't leave any for me. Bastard.

The first failure had me laughing straight away; the second doubly so. The music (Garage Band?) really made it work and Paul did a great job at failing throughout (a compliment in this case ;)).

I liked the silent debate he had with himself with the remote in one hand and the smoothie in the other. You could see exactly what he was thinking. :)

In the Sure-icide scene I was half expecting a Red Dwarf fall-over-backwards death - anyone who's seen RD should know what I'm talking about ("Place under the tongue, like so...").

Speaking for myself, I would have gone for the ending more if he couldn't make a smoothie in life (perhaps added mayo by accident or something ;)), but in death he could finally get hold of one. Or at least have him get to shake a hand or two... I mean all he got in the end was clouds and the one thing he already had anyway, but for some reason he looked happy about it. But whatever, that's probably just me. It was funny regardless. :)

Totally random question: Was that key already broken or did you break it especially for the vid? That was nicely cut/acted by the way, I thought he'd actually done it for a split second there before my common sense kicked in.

This makes me feel better after all the times I raged at the Snuggie commercial with the woman who is utterly incapable of using a blanket.

Great acting by Paul in this one.

It's funny, I didn't recognize it as Paul until I heard his voice. Good video idea nonetheless- I always wondered what kind of actors do the "Has This Ever Happened to You?" shots.
Well, hallo there.

I've always been bothered by the "horrors of using knives/blankets/normal items" portions of a lot of common commercials. I watch a lot of late night cable, so I've seen tons of them. This was a great take on that... "What if there was someone for whom using everyday things really WAS that unpleasant and terrible?" Good going!

I have to say that the first thing that ran though my mind when I saw this was, "Man! I do not want to be that guy, or his girlfriend/boyfriend." Can you imagine being a total failure in relationships? I mean in everything having to do with relationships? *nudge, wink, saying no more*

But the other thing that went through my mind was wondering if his phailures were linked to his hands. Like, when he made the smoothie, it came out just right, but everything else he did with his dominant hand was wrong.

Say...

This isn't a subtle anti-right-handers screed, is it?

Wait, a Yummies product that's actually good? I was assuming any smoothie made in a Yummies blender would be the thing that killed Sean. It must be a sad and lonely existence, going through life searching desperately for anything that has featured in a "Has This Ever Happened To You?" advert so you can actually use it properly.

One important criticism, although not actually of the video itself: the video description gives away the entire premise. It would've been funnier if I hadn't known what was coming.
