The Joystique

Postby Graham » 08 Jun 2009, 21:19

Granted, some of the E3 stuff looks really cool (the tech for Natal is stunning) but... what's wrong with a controller guys?

HUGE thanks to Justin McElroy from Joystiq for his guest appearance.

If only we could select our favorite Mel Brooks movies the old fashioned way again. Good stuff.

Thank you so much for this video.

It's so blatantly obvious that they decided to over complicate things. And come on Sony, a glowing ping pong ball?

I must say the way the video was presented it felt like an actual proper presentation for such a device. I want one so bad.

PS. I do look forward to the applications of Natal for computer interfaces, games don't need that tech.
I had something cleaver here, but I forgot what it was.

Not surprising, but fully enjoyable.

The video's not working for me. The first time I clicked on it, Matt was on screen for about 8 seconds, and then it died. I refreshed, and now the spinning white wheel of doom won't go away...

EDIT: Nevermind, restarted Firefox, it's working normally now.

Funny stuff, not one of my favorites, but still a very good bit. As I've said before, even when LRR isn't at the top of their game, they're still damn funny.

Loved the pit stop.

...Ehhhhh...

Not my favourite. I kind of have the same reaction to this as to "Right to the Source". One extended joke for the whole vid. It was a little blah to me. The little promo vids were pretty good, though.

On the plus side, all the cross traffic from when Joystiq presumably will link on their site will be good, but on the down side, you may have played it too straight for the internet at large to appreciate the humor

Bear in mind, I wrote this. In 48 hours. I'm hardly on our writing A-list.

That said, it's a concept video, it wasn't really intended to be laugh out loud funny.

This is always a fear we have with these vids, maintaining the lulz.
There's actually plenty of jokes throughout, if you look/listen for them, but a lot of times that doesn't work for people. Oh well.

Very clever, I liked it a lot.

In contrary to what other people said, I thought you paced the humor really well throughout the video. The reveal of it being a Joystick obviously wasn't surprising, but you guys worked it really well.

It gave me a chuckle when, by the end of the video, Matt had stopped pronouncing it "Joy stEEEk," and went right back to "Joystick." Or "stique." I never know. Silly Canadians...

That was HILARIOUS especially considering how fat you guys wrote, shot, and edited it. Nice work. Who were you guys able to get justin mcelroy involved? That was just funny.

Enjoyed it a lot! There weren't as many jokes per se (though I loved calling Sony's whatchamacallit a ping pong ball), but it was a very biting and effective satire, with a hilarious parody of the Natal commercial thrown in. I loved Paul's "Your tire's are toast!" and Tim's emphatic pushing of a button.

I really enjoyed how the box art for the games (at about 4:44) were the C64 editions of the games, but the sticker on Atomic Robo-Kid was a bit tacky. Also, the crowd noises were great except for the last one, which sounded really fake, but that's nit-picking.

Also, Graham, I see what you mean about this video taking a while to edit - getting a shadow in on a green screen must be a bitch and a half to do.

So, yeah, not a real funny video, but still a very good one. The humour is all in the premise, the closeness of the parody bits to the original, and the acerbity of the satire.

Edit: CAN YOU DIGG IT?

The Natal is absolutly awesome if they make it work half as well as it sounds like it will... not for gaming, mind you, you'll look stupider then wiing with it, but for movie controls? if it gets adopted for PC usage? It's on my to-buy list for the netflix interaction alone...

Yes, I'm lazy... I'm also tired of losing the TV remote or the 360 being put down across the room and needing to do something mid-movie...

... a pingpong ball? Did they have what looked like a wiimote and say "Well..shit... we can't release this...stick a ball on top of it john." or something?

good solid video...by no means the absolute best, but good solid joke well executed.

I was kind of expecting a penis joke since the very beginning >_<
I suppose i should be glad it never showed up, and that it was still awesome though.

The "entire portion" Matt is referring to is only about 20 seconds, but it does have that penis joke Vaughn was waiting for.

Nice. In the director's cut version, you might want to spell "versitile" correctly, too. Unless that's how you spell it in Canada, but you guys usually regulate your spelling differences to throwing u's in everywhere, and switching the letters e and r around.
