I'm sure these are being worked out or will be announced etc but:
Current archives, moving to the Escapist? Staying where they are?
Download/quicktime option?
HD/HQ option?

That means that the only place they can be hosted is on the Escapist servers, so they won't be up on youtube (the new ones anyways, the licensing agreement might not apply to older videos, but that's one of the things they'll be working out in the future), and LRR can't sell them to break.com or anything like that. It also means that if anybody tries to steal LRR's videos and sell them to break or something like that, we'll now have the Escapist behind us, which gives the crew a lot more leverage when it comes to maintaining control of their content.
I can see how something bad could come of this, but only if the crew were secretly utter douches like Graham in A Sacred Duty. Thanks to the power of ballkicks, I highly doubt that will be the case, and thus only awesomeness will come of this. Have faith in the LRRd.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
I get the feeling that LRR is seriously going to absorb The Escapist. First it was Unskippable, then ENN, now LRR. I think that LRR might actually have the most series/articles on there now...
Matt! You're good at complaining. Try to get a written article series over there.
---
Also, James, fix your title. It's annoying me, should be; LRR + The Escapist = Success
Edit: By most series/articles, I mean most owned by one group.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
I'm still a little disappointed that I won't be able to watch new vids on our familiar big, blue website. It's part of the experience for me. I'm actually way behind on ENN & Unskippable because I keep forgetting to check over there for new stuff. It would be nice to at least have an official linkback from the LRR main page for new vids. Sure, ISC & Phailhaus will still be here, but how often do those happen.
I'm still real happy for the license tho'. LRR forevLRR.

I trust you guys to do what is right for your site so I'm not freaking out about this, but I do have some questions. I'm sure we will get a lot more information after Desert Bus is over but I want to put these out there.
1) Are the weekly videos going to be limited in quality? Currently the videos on the Escapist, including Unskippable and ENN, are in a much lower resolution than your current weekly video posts. Sometimes that HD is really nice to have.
2) The Escapist does not support viewing any of their videos on any mobile devices. Are we going to lose the ability to view/download videos onto our iPhones and other devices? One of the things I loved most were the videocasts in iTunes that I could put on my phone and take with me. It also allowed me to introduce some friends to the site by having some videos with me at all times.
Again I'm not panicking or upset, I trust you guys to do what is best for the site. Just posting some questions that came to mind immediately.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
Hey, there's no reason NOT to stay on these forums. After all, when LRR posted Unskippable and ENN on The Escapist, did we only discuss those videos on the Escapist forums? Of course not. The only real difference is that there probably won't be a direct link to the discussion topic in this forum next to the video anymore. And I was watching the videos on YouTube recently, anyway, so I could get it in the full glorious HQ size.
However, I would recommend just signing up for the escapist forums (c'mon, you know it takes, like, 60 seconds, tops), if for no other reason than to leave a small comment on their forums for LRR videos. Why? Same reason the LRR crew urged us to comment at the YouTube page. Since the only public counter of how popular a video is on the Escapist is the number of comments on it, the more comments there are, the better it looks. And comments don't need to be anything beyond "another great vid hilarious ball kicks lolololol" (as long as you post this after you have actually watched the video, mind you).
Anywho, this is great, and I'm really excited and happy for LRR. I really hope that this is a major step towards making LRR "more of a thing".
Lastly, a while back Yahtzee said "I AM the Escapist". I can only hope that soon he would say "LRR and I ARE the Escapist." Well, it's nice to dream, isn't it?

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
Something that Graham actually mentioned is that one of the main reasons behind the exclusive license is that the Escapist will be massively overhauling their video hosting and all that. Russ actually got out of a meeting about that earlier today before calling Graham. Likely one of the things will be higher quality on at least some videos (such as LRR's).

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
Will this change the content of the videos? I've only given it a cursory glance, but the escapist doesn't seem to have anything but video games on their site. I always enjoy your video game related videos, but that's only a small portion of what is LRR.
Anyway, keep up the awesome, and congratulations on reaching the next step on your secret goal to sell out. And keep bussing.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
Its a licensing agreement, so as long as it doesn't exceed the general guidelines the Escapist has (not Boondock-Saints levels of profanity, and no extreme pornography according to Russ), and Graham says that the Escapist is very good about leaving creative control up to the crew for Unskippable and ENN (which the Escapist actually own the creative control to, I believe), so I don't see anything changing.
EDIT: Morgan just said, and I quote: "It's exactly, to the T, what we're doing now, except we're getting dollars for it.", and "We retain creative control".

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
It will be a bit sad not to be able to see the new videos here, and I don't like watching videos on the escapist that much (probebly because I tend to have problems with them and it can take days befor they will even load for me (this doesn't seem to be a computer problem though). But if what he said is true then I hold hope that their new video system will solve all of this.
Also, sorry to ask for this; but would it be possible to make a Sub forum for the ENN or Unskippable threads? as it is now they dissapear from the first page so fast so you have to go back and dig through the archives to find them.
That's not compleatly true; they have video series that aren't game related

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
I have to advocate for the forums on the Escapist. I'm new here, but I've been at the Escapist for about a year. People who suck get put on prohibition (happened to me once, but I deserved it), and most members are quite civil.
Anyways, good for you, LRR!

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
It would certainly be nice if there was an official forum thread for the videos, rather than a post by the first person who sees the update.

Yeah, to stop us from talking about the ENN/Unskippable suggestion here and taking us off the main topic I created a seperate thread for it.
So if you wanna talk about Unskippable and ENN's role on this forum go here instead:

As for HD options, I can't really comment on that. We're not sure exactly what changes will be happening with the Escapist video player, but I'm sure they'll be great.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
I'm on the Escapist forums, and I don't like it there. That doesn't mean I'll be ditching LRR. Oh no no no. I'll still be here. And, like others have said I'll still discuss everything over here, as I have with Unskippable and ENN.
Plus, the Runners are here. That means that being a Runner has special significance now. Especially for those of us that were members long before LRR's jump to the Escapist. If only there were a way for us OGs to be recognized over there.

My big fear is the Escapist forums pouring over.
Our nonsensical rantings and ravings are entertaining. Theirs are quite often insulting and childish, but not childish like us, childish like the elementary school bully.
And as much as they fight it over there, there is a *first* in pretty much every post.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Unskippable = Success
IT'S POPULAR NOW IT SUCKS
Just kidding. Personally, I hated the move to YouTube as the vids were very stutter-y for me. The vids on the Escapist seem to work better.
How many of you can get paid now? I know Graham and Paul are basically paid full-time by The Escapist now, and Kathleen and Jer part-time, but do the rest of you get some money? Or is it all going to the long-fabled rocketship made of money, hookers, and blow?
Except THIS way, Escapist forumites are far MORE likely to stay where they are - rather than coming here to watch "more stuff from those Unskippable guys".

James, shouldn't the title be "LRR + The Escapist = Success?" Or is there something here that I'm missing...I'm tired, so that's entirely possible.
Either way, this sounds like a pretty good deal. You get moneys, we get same content. Congrats, guys!

I don't think we have to worry about that too much. The Escapist has a different community culture from the LRR forums, and I'm pretty confident we won't change their community culture too much, and anyone (more) who comes here from there probably won't change our community culture that much, either. Our community dynamic is pretty well established and would probably resist any change, unless literally dozens of new people from the Escapist forums signed up all at once and began posting 10 times a day each.
When someone comes over here as an individual, they'll likely post a bit, see how things work over here, and then start to conform to that, while adding a bit of their own flavour. And I welcome that.

If that happened Lying, Gordon, and myself would crack our collective knuckles and show them how its really done.
I kid, that would be horrible.
