I agree with James.

I've had a bit of a sore throat and a cough since Saturday and going to the concert and "woo-ing" my lungs out probably didn't help.

I also wasn't getting a lot of sleep over the weekend and wasn't eating properly, so I'm a little run down. It's more than likely just a cold, but I'm going to keep an eye on it.

I'm not worried about Matt, he probably got it from me!
I was HELLA sick and feverish on Monday, but I'm feeling much better now. Still very much not 100% but not death-sick anymore.

Fuck! Don't taunt him Graham! He's still got my state by the balls.

I am glad to say I escaped un-flued. Though, I did feel crappy on Friday night. I chalked it up to 2 hours of sleep, 5 hours of driving, 9 hours of PAXing, with roughly one meal worth of food and 3 days worth of caffeine drinks.

Can't wait til next year, paper masks for everyone!

Well on the slightly shinier side of the cloud, if Matt dies then Tim can take his place, and then for a week I can take Tim's place :P

see I am a bit of a hypochondriac in situations like this. I mean I am almost sure I just have a cold, stuffed up nose and a cough, and not even a bad one. But I am all paranoid about it now, after I heard about it I kicked off from work early to be sure, I may do the same for tomorrow just to be safe, but I don't think I am going to warrant a doctors visit.

That is all.

Yeah, and can we please get back to calling cars "automated mobiles" and AM "Ante-Meridian" and PM "Post-Meridian" and while we're at it can we please call Rhode Island by its proper name, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations? I just hate nicknames for things with a fiery passion, you see!

His problem is more that the "Swine Flu" moniker is wildly inaccurate. Initial investigations suggested it looked a lot like swine flu (and in fact it shares some characteristics of that strain), but further investigation revealed that this is pretty much a grab bag of genes.

Priority goes to the very old, very young and immune compromised first. You'll be better off waiting until there is a logical distribution plan before you go jump in line and clog things up.

Both me and one of my con-roommates came down with the sick and were basically bed-ridden and miserable for most of Monday in Seattle. In the middle of the day, I forced myself to get out of bed and trudge up a lot of hills to the nearest E.R. (Virginia Mason on Ninth Avenue) where they discovered I had a fever of 102, so they pumped me full of I.V. fluids, got my temperature down, discovered that I officially had the flu, and sent me home with a whole lot of face masks and a request not to fly until my fever went completely away.

Of course, I wore one of those masks all the way home and it was actually very interesting because I also wore my red half-trenchcoat and my tiger-print cowboy hat (and LRRunners shirt) with my hair pulled back in a ponytail, so I felt a little conspicuous stalking through the airport with my mask on.

Currently at home now, doing work because my boss is overwhelmed, but once I'm doing putting in these ad orders and filling out some paperwork, I'm going to zonk out again for a while.

For the record - I'm hardly dying. I'm not great, but I would call what I'm dealing with fairly mild. I went to the doctor yesterday, simply as a precaution, and his advice was siply to stay home, rest, have plenty of fluids, and try not to give it to anyone else.

So that's what I'm doing.

Swine flu or not, I'll be good as new in a few days - as will the rest of the crew.

i felt like complete shit yesterday while riding the train home. sore throat, body aches, head ache, upset stomach, coughing up phlegm. One home i took my temperature, 101.7. took some aspirin and went to bed. Today i went to the doctor and while he can say that i undoubtedly have some form of the flu . . . my insurance doesn't cover swine flu tests and i would have to pay $210 to send a sample off to the lab . . . he prescribed me some antibiotics and some Tylenol and sent me on my way.

I'm really glad that this isn't an issue here no matter how Swine Flu-y people might get.

My insurance doesn't cover it either. But there's a good reason for that:

I am trying to get Medical Assistance in PA.

Seriously, our state government has to be the worthless bunch of assholes in the history of the government. Our governor is a Philadelphia politician who lacks the brains to tie his shoes let alone run a state. Our legislature hasn't approved a state budget for 70 DAYS. And because state Medicaid and Public welfare are dependant on a state budget, among all the other government offices, they can't really approve or deny coverage now.

Seriously, California may have declared bankruptcy, but at least they got enough of a budget together to say that. I can officially say that I know how all you UK runners feel with Gordon Brown.

No, it's the whole "being forced to pay for something you might not use and people who don't have jobs or contribute to will most definitely use" that's a stupid thing. If people wanted health care bad enough, they'd get it.

And if people wanted to avoid losing their valuables in a fire bad enough they'd fireproof everything they own.

Actually, the argument I've been hearing a lot is that it's all the Nazis now. Because it is still the 1930's apparently. Come on people, at least call it communism if you have to call it anything.

And the "People who don't have jobs will use health care more than people who don't." seems pretty presumptuous to me, and it assumes that people without jobs are all leeches on society. The real leeches are already engorged in blood. People at the top don't earn anything anymore, they just take it.

But enough politics, I suggest a pool on who of the crew gets SIDS first.
