I'm a-goin' to go where there ain't no snow...

Postby Sable » 20 Sep 2009, 15:56

Well, looks like this is the season for change. Not three months after getting married, it looks like I'm going to be moving!

To Sierra Vista, Arizona.

I've been offered a job there by a company called STG (they audit IT on military bases) for absolutely absurd pay and perks, and I just can't think of a reason not to go. Rose and I had planned on moving out of Alaska this year, but had sort of given it up in the face of the Financiapocalypse. Given the reactions of companies I'd talked with in the Seattle area, I had gotten the impression that somehow I was at the bottom of the barrel for the applicant pool, but this company is falling over themselves to get me to come down there.

So, the tl;dr version is that there will be two less Alaskan LRR-ites in the world, but we're moving real close to where the Desert Bus is starting from (An hour away from Tuscon).

And the tl;dr for the tl;dr, what's there to do in Arizona?

Go for long moonlit strolls through the desert?

Edit: I meant this to be sarcasm, but looking back at it, that actually sounds like it would be pretty nice.

Congrats! In the spring, you get Spring Training for baseball. You'll also have to get accustomed to a more regular sunrise/sunset cycle. Otherwise, you get a lot of water rationing and old people.

And you know how long it will take to get to Las Vegas driving at 45 mph.

Aw man, there goes the theoretically possible Alaskan couch-crash.

I hear it's easier to grow Habaneros in Arizona. Also, they have neat license plates if I recall correctly.

How ya movin'? Road trip, or taking to the skies?

Granted, the closest I ever came to Arizona is Los Angeles and Reno-Tahoe. You will probably need to revamp your entire wardrobe though. Less wool coats and puffy vests, more bermuda shorts and crop tops. Then there's Rose's wardrobe...

Seriously though, Arizona is hot, Alaska is cold. Whatever you couldn't do in Alaska you can probably do in Arizona.

When my dad went from Alaska to New Mexico, he could not take the heat. Wouldn't leave the house during the day if he didn't have to in the summer. I wish you a good and quick adaptation.

Hey, someone got the thread title. Hooray!

I will look forward to doing all of these things in Arizona.

Sorry about the lack of Alaskan couch-crash, metcarfre. You had your chance. :)

We will be flying out of Juneau, after putting all of our stuff into a great big container and having that barged/trucked down to where we're going to be. Not sure about the cars yet, although I won't cry too much if I have to keep my Audi.

This whole "change" thing is kind of terrifying. Oh well, at least now I'll be in a place with a road, so I can actually go somewhere for less than a grand.

Matt, I'd buy it, but seeing as I already have no money, no license, and live on the other side of the FRIGGIN CONTINENT, probably not feasible.
