Probably for the best.

Coming up to three and a half years, and looking like she'll be moving to within a few miles of me soon :D

I dunno, I'd date you, Elomin. See what happens.

Single... and enjoying myself for now. Re-evaluating what I want out of a relationship.

Depends on if you abstain from sex until marraige, if your finances would particularly benefit from legal conglomeration, or if you have relatives bugging you about it whom you either can't or are not willing to ignore.

Just for the record, I meant specifically being able to live in the same country when you're from two different countries. Not relationship issues.

Aww. Deflate my silliness, why don'cha?

But yeah, modern national barriers are insane. Almost nothing is comparable to them throughout all of human history.

Now I'm imagining someone taking a claymore mine with "Science!" spray-painted on the casing, strapping it onto the end of a claymore, and then adding a pressure detonator.

...

That needs to be a TF2 weapon. Someone model that for us and put it on the Steam Workshop.

You two should go on a date and film it. I'd watch that.

I think I picked the wrong sushi to eat that day.

It was beginner sushi. I don't know, try a yam roll next time.

Yam rolls are DELICIOUS if made right. The warm, crispy tempura yam; the cool, sticky rice; chewy nori; and the salty soy with the kick of wasabi. Match made in heaven I tells yah.

General rules of sushi, from yours truly.

1) Don't skimp. Cheap sushi tastes like crap at best, makes you ill at worst.
2) Start with primary ingredients you already like. Work out from there.
3) Try the sauces. Sometimes they complete an otherwise underwhelming roll.
4) Have something else as the main meal. The sushi is just a nice little treat.
5) Learn basic phonetics and say the name a few times before you order. Mangled Japanese stings. :P

I'm trying to decided if this is legitimately about sushi or some relationship metaphor that I'm not following.

Sushi is kind of... I don't know... Westernized? Simplified? here. You can order by going "salmon sashimi, yam roll, and California roll please". It's not really a big "WE ARE GOING TO A JAPANESE CULTURAL THING NOW".

Sushi outnumbers virtually any other type of restaurant, though.

Must vary by region. But you do seem to be the kind of person who knows how to say "sashimi". Don't take that for granted. (Although, you're from Vancouver so that helps. Americans are often DUMB.)

A lot of the lower-cost (not necessarily bad!) places make things easy to order (numbers for all dishes, labelling bento boxes as "Box A/B/C, etc.).

We have a favourite sushi restaurant near our house where we almost always get Box A for the wife (California roll, vegetable tempura, salad, chicken teriyaki with broad wheat noodles, rice) and I get Box B (Salmon and tuna sashimi, sunomono, vegetable tempura, beef teriyaki, noodles, rice) and a yam roll. Can't go wrong (though I always ask if the salmon is wild or farmed).

My sister-in-law grew up in China; I really want to do dim sum again, and the only times it's been good I've been with a Mandarin speaker.

Just don't ever try a "hot pot". Three Panel Soul, on Authentic Chinese Food...
