Re: The Big Relationship Thread
I have had two valetines days with someone, can not for the life of me remember what I did. I do know that I am terrible at romance, writing poetry and anything similar, so I dislike any day that forces me to stress out over what to do and eventually fail at doing it right. Though it's not the day I dislike, I just don't like failing.

Update from me: Elf liked the valentine, and remarkably it was the only one she received. Today she's heading off to a weekend LAN party, and she's very excited to eventually see her christmas present that arrived ominously on Valentines.

Re: The Big Relationship Thread
Just came back from an MCR bop (and am tipsy, so sorry for my spelling and/or grammar), there was a girl there that was really into me and I was also attracted to her. When she wanted to leave I asked for her number, she told me she wouldn't want to really start anything serious but would be up for some casual "stuff" some other day. And I turned her down... What on earth is wrong with me?!
On the upside I am getting better at the whole approaching people thing (I have been over the fear of it for some time but was still crap at it). Also, you know that cue when you know you should kiss her. Yea, got that 3 times and didn't have the balls to go for it... again, what is wrong with me?!
Apparently I am not handling that rejection by the girl I was REALLY into anywhere as well as I would like to make myself believe.

I dunno, I'd have probably turned her down too; although having said that, I have agreed to let a couple of mates take me off to Zante this summer, so I think that if such an offer comes up for real I may be surrounded by 20 mates... which could get awkward.

Re: The Big Relationship Thread
I don't think I've ever had a romantic Valentine's.
Three years ago I was in a casual relationship with someone in an open relationship with his girlfriend. They probably spent the day together? I was away at a gaming con anyway, but he sent me a "<3" by text, which I actually hadn't been expecting, and it was nice.
The last two years IX and I probably Skyped but otherwise didn't do much? I sent him a card I made one year, I remember.
I'm kind of in a funk right now from hearing about the Valentine's gift my friend sent to his long-distance gf. A metal rose on a red velvet bed. Classy as fuck, right? This is one of the guys here - I usually have dinner with him every day when he's around, but he doesn't really talk about his relationship. I know that it's open, but only on her end - that is, he doesn't see other people, though she does. I get that he keeps himself to himself, and fair enough.
I guess I'm just a little... bleh hearing about the gift because I'd like something like that sometime. I don't want to be one of those, "Bloo hoo I didn't get a gift" types. This friend has means, while neither of us really ever have, and we've never been too big about gifts. The time we get to spend with each other usually counts for more than enough, and the money to get there takes away what spending money we might have had.
It just... sounds nice. And now I'm getting all weird and I shouldn't care and this is dumb. Everyone's allowed to feel a little jealous when hearing about a romantic gesture, right?

Re: The Big Relationship Thread
You're in a long distance relationship. You're going to have weird emotions. And hearing that someone received something (anything, really) only makes you remember that you're not with IX right now.
And if you wear, I'm going to go on a limb and say you wouldn't really care that much because you would have been with him and whatever you guys did together would have been perfect.
Don't worry about it too much. It's not like you're upset with IX, or with your friend, or with anyone. You're upset about the distance and separation, and that's normal. Anything that makes you think about it is going to make you feel bad.

What you're feeling is totally normal, Fayili. It gets better when the $$ isn't constantly going to flights and school and life. Although, the money always has a place to go - other than to awesome things

Re: The Big Relationship Thread
I have the complementing feeling of hating myself a little for never being able to get a gift like that. (And I had it before this post.) It upsets me enough that it really puts me off getting any kind of gift, honestly. Even though of course it would be possible, I can't separate achievable gifts in my head from the amazing romantic ones I'd like to do. And it only happens with romantic gifts. I get affordable gifts for family and so on at Christmas, but there has always been this block with Fayili because I can't get her all the things I want to. :< And I know that's stupid. It's a very stupid attitude to have, but I have yet to beat it. It contributes to my agreeing with our broad no-gift policy.
It's funny, really, because of course in a relationship like ours, which is pretty open and understanding as a rule, the most ridiculously silly/cheap gifts would be fine. And even knowing this I just can't bring myself to 'do' gifts if I can't do them right. It sucks. :/
Of course this is incredibly embarrassing to explain, no matter how we spin it, whenever anybody asks. It's like how we don't Skype every day - not doing it is easier than thinking about how we can't do it the best way possible.

Re: The Big Relationship Thread
The other day while playing a game (and four Blue Moons in) I mentioned that as a kid I never like barney because I didn't like that a stranger was telling me he loved me. One of my friends responded with "........X, but still" (where X is the person I'm interested in and the ......... is because I missed everything said before that.) She then refused to repeat it claiming she never said anything in the first place. Damn my drunken minds inability to pay attention

Did she smile and look into your eyes? Make eye contact and smile.
If they like it, it'll be written all over their face.

Ask her if she'd be willing to write her thoughts and feelings towards you on her face, because you suck at reading people.
