I'm an introvert conditioned to be semi-adept in social situations, but sooooooo much YES.

I stare into the eye of social means with a stone glare of trepidation from under my bed covers.

Man I suck at writing first messages. It's like "oh hey I am a total stranger basing my entire opinion of you based on a few vague question answers and maybe a paragraph and one photograph you submitted, but I'm not a total creeper, promise!"

Why?
(if anyone's interested I was the one about to die from a massive skin rush when Bebop and I met. Dammit social anxiety!)

Re: The Big Relationship Thread
Whenever I meet new people I always have to be as social as I possibly can because I know otherwise I'll never be comfortable enough with them to interact at all. This does however have the side effect of making them often unaware of the very reason I have to do that.

Re: The Big Relationship Thread
I'm alright with new people. I'm the kind of guy who can walk into a pub and half an hour later have everyone gather round me to hear my stories.
The way I see it is, I'll just be me and let that be my filter. You can tell if you're going to like someone or not in the first 6 seconds. So on the 7th second, you can tell if you're wasting time.
It really makes things easier!

I am no longer going to eat meals with my siblings again. They're telling me whom I should marry.

Never found that personally: there are some people I'm now very close friends with who I thought were kinda arseholes when we first met, and vice-versa

I think everyone has their own system when dealing with meeting new people.
Mine is "try to become invisible and if possible, not get a rash".

I'm the same way. I tend to be much more talkative and outgoing (which is to say, reaching almost the level of a "normal" person) when I'm meeting new people. I'm a bit of a slave to expectations, so I'd rather not be perceived as too shy. Even though meeting new people is nerve-wracking, I tend to have a much easier time carrying on a conversation than I even do with most members of my extended family.

Re: The Big Relationship Thread
I have met someone I like and I have been texting. She has red hair, she is clinically bi-polar, has attempted suicide, (on meds and doing well now) is very pretty, seems to like me. She's faintly bizarre, but nice, and I want to see her again. She hasn't dated anyone for a while because of a bad breakup. I don't know if she'll date me, I hope she will. I don't think I've screwed it up yet. All I know right now is I want to see her again.
Count down to my next post when I've screwed it up.
Edit: I have got to tone down the self-pity. Although funnily enough, when I;m talking to her I'm able to come off as super-confident. Which I like. Anyway, back to whatever it was we were all doing.

Re: The Big Relationship Thread
I feel like my efforts to actually get in contact with anyone I find remotely attractive is roughly equivalent to tossing bottles into the ocean and hoping a space alien finds them.

Don't worry Lying you'll find that space alien someday

I think the sex symbols are derived from the planetary symbols of Mars and Venus.

I always thought the male symbol was a spear and a shield, and the female symbol was a hand mirror.

Which are the corresponding symbols for Mars, God of War, and Venus, Goddess of Love, respectively.
It's all over but the crying. And the taxes.
