Sounds like even if it doesn't work out the way you're hoping, you've got the potential to make a good new friend. :)

Question now is whether I wait 3 or 7 months now.

Very specific times. And the longer you wait, the worse it can potentially be.

Think with your heart and not with your head. It's all about how comfortable you feel. You can't really plan it.

Tell her, panic and maybe some heartburn.

The situation is a little complicated for saying anything (or I'm thinking it's more complicated than it is).

Always the case. Things are simple. You ask her, she says yes, great! You ask her, she says no, move on!

Probably trying to mention a body part other than your heart and guts? I'm not sure what kind of euphemism that could be, honestly. It's not like they asked what your loins thought.

So I'm currently finding it impossible to arrange to meet with a lass named Helen. I've sort of known her for a bit over a year, although not in contact much, she was one of my stage crew last year for show with an amateur musical theatre group I regularly stage manage for and this year I asked her to be my Asst.SM for the show as technical theatre is what she's studying at college. She's cute, very down to earth, bit geeky - generally a type of woman I'd be very happy spending time with.

Show went great, but due to her living on the far side of Glasgow she had to disappear promptly at the end of each show rather than stick around for the various post-show social events like a enmass trip to a local chinese restaurant, etc.

In show week I am so focused on running the show I can't really entertain other thoughts, never mind get much chance for conversation on non-show topics, unlike much of the cast and crew who all have downtime during the show itself. So I love the after-show socials for winding down and actually engaging with the cast & crew.

Anyhow, finally the run ends and the after-show party kicks off. Through various things Helen and I don't actually talk with each other that much during the party, getting caught up in separate discussions, etc - towards the end of the evening though we did have a brief chat (I remember it happened, but I was a little drunk & it was 3 weeks ago now so I forget what it was about).

After-show party wraps up at 2am, with (as has become a mini-tradition the past 3 years now) a bunch of about 9 of us younger folk heading along to Elaine's flat for an after-after-show party that tends to go on till 6am or so. Helen, despite my half-joking protest, heads off to her parents place to go to bed instead.
Now Beth, Helens flatmate (and life-long friend I believe), is a past member of the theatre group and had come to watch the final show and came along to both the after-show & after-after-show parties. And at some point in the wee small hours Beth stated to all present that the sexual tension between Helen & I was unbelievable.
I generally dislike "me & a potential romance" being the subject of conversation, so was quite pleased for the topic not to actually be continued beyond that statement - all bar 2 of which have known me for at least 10 years.

Anyhow, skipping forward to the present, I'm attempting take Helen to the cinema - as a genuine thanks for being my ASM (I did the same last year for my mate Andy), but she's super busy with college stuff and because it's all technical rehearsals and 1-night shows she's having to do for her course right now + having paid work on some shows in the evenings. The past two weekends have been impossible for her and this one impossible for me! Nevermind the fact I'm also busy half the evenings of the week as well.
And with her flat on the far side of Glasgow and me working from home just now there's not even an opportunity of an on-the-fly meeting as it takes an hour for me to get to the centre of Glasgow and about 20mins for her.

</torrent of words>

TLDR: damn the scheduling Gods!

I'm kind of cautious too. I don't want to make a cock up like my parents. Mother and father get pregnant at young age, marry, things happen, get divorced, knock on affect to the children. Not for me.
If she says no I would be heartbroken but I would be okay with that and hopefully don't scare them off and can still be friends.

Dude. You're overthinking this. If you're scared... well that's only human. I'm reminded of a CS Lewis quote I found the other day:

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket — safe, dark, motionless, airless — it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside of Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.”

Go for it man. Knowing that you can make a mistake like your parents protects you to a certain extent from doing so- but anyway, that's an issue much further down the line.
"Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not Image it after all."
