Swine flu...

Postby Brad » 18 Oct 2009, 08:42

It is balls.

Whoever was having sex with that pig in Mexico deserves to be shot. Leave the pigs alone, they've got enough problems without you sexing them: hypothetical Mexican!

The bird flu guy is just all kinds of messed up.

Licking a pig's nose.

Yeah, that's pretty much how you get zoonotic disease...

Has there been much of a swine flu problem in Canada?

Something under 80 deaths in Canada, I believe, which is like 0.4% of cases. So there have been about 20,000 cases I think. I don't know what that is per capita.

It's getting fairly common. 8 people have died in BC - which isn't a lot - 7 of 8 of whom had confirmed pre-existing conditions. Here's the weekly bulletin for BC; http://www2.news.gov.bc.ca/news_releases_2009-2013/2009HSERV0001-000004.htm (from the BC CDC. There's no national CDC in Canada.)

Summary; 14 new severe cases this week, one death. The CDC is no longer reporting individual flu cases as all those contracting the flu are now assumed to have H1N1.

Just like to remind everyone to wash their hands regularly, sneeze into your sleeve, and stay home if you are sick. Thanks.

My feeling is that this will blow over and not be as bad as it could, but the next few weeks are crucial.

I realize this is in Canada, but I still want to make the joke:

7 of 8 insurance companies seen wiping foreheads.

Also: +1 for use of the word "zoonotic"

I'm sure the triple word score will help you get better faster, Brad. Good luck!

I can offer only my best wishes for your recovery and this youtube link that has probably been linked to in another thread somewhere earlier.

Oh yes, the perils of living in a small country. Hope you feel better soon! On the bright side, if you're alive now, then you probably don't have the TERRIBLE AWFUL DEATH kind. But that could just be me being ill-informed.

Well, the majority of Swine Flu cases in the highest risk populations have been mainly mild or moderate. The severe and fatal cases are mostly within those with pre-existing heart and lung diseases and disorders. Besides, Brad is in a very low-risk category and he has that mesmerizing mandible. I bet IT could battle swine flu by itself.
