Graham & Paul at GameX in Philly!

Postby Graham » 20 Oct 2009, 00:34

We haven't really mentioned this yet, but Paul and I will be at the GameX gaming and media expo next weekend, in Philadelphia.

We are attending under the auspices of Unskippable, courtesy of The Escapist.
Yahtzee's going to be there too.

If you're near the area, you should come to the expo and say hi!

Hrmm. do you know what day you'll be there?

I could possibly go on a week end. Driving 3 hours to see people that are normally on the other side of the continent is no big deal for me.
~I'm probably not serious~
Oh and you can just call me Dave.
No need for the whole screen name.

Where on LI are you, and are you a serial killer? We could carpool if you promise not to try to kill me. Though i say entirely theoretically anyway since other schedule elements will have to be resolved

I'm in East Northport. And I am not a serial Killer (It was only that one time, I swear. heh). Carpooling with strangers is fun so I'd be totally up for it anyway.
The weekend is the best time for me, as Friday I have class til 2pm. (though my college is right off the LIE)

Why are all these conventions of amazingness invariably outside of the radius it is feasible for me to travel?

Requesting pics, please, for all us filthy foreigners!

Want. to. go. but. lack. transportation. to. pennsylvania.

NOOOOOO!

Oh well. I'll just have to take solace in fact that you'll at least be "in the area" and hope that this foreshadows road trips closer to where I am.

Have fun guys!

Ditto! I'm still waiting on details of whether they'll be traveling through the city proper... it's probably worthwhile to note that, if my understanding is correct, the expo is not actually in Philly, but something like 30 miles outside the city, which is kind of a pain, since SEPTA (public transit) doesn't go that far....

So yes! Philly LRR meetup? We will shower you with cheesesteaks!

When you say "next weekend" you mean "this weekend?" The website says Oct 23-25. That's a pretty substantial trip for you guys and a huge trip for Yahtzee. Go Themis Media/The Escapist! Congrats on the recognition, guys. They wouldn't be sending you out there if you weren't bringing traffic to their site. I'd love to make it, but that's a bit of a trip on 3 days notice.

Hey Graham and Paul and anyone else from outside of the area thinking of going
I am from just north of Philadelphia, I lived there from when I was born until 3 months ago, so I know the region pretty well. GameX is at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, which is about 20 miles northwest of Center City Philadelphia. If you are getting there by car you most likely will be taking 422, which is heavily congested especially in the area around the expo center, so plan for that. If you want to get there via public transportation from Philadelphia you can take the R6 Norristown train to Norristown Transportation Center and then take the 99 bus to the shopping center that is right next to the expo center. PM me if you need help figuring out SEPTA.

As for Graham and Paul, I am guessing you might want to see the city of Philadelphia. There is too much to do for me to list, so what would you be interested in? How much time will you have to do things other than the expo?

Does anyone else have questions about things to do in the area other than the game expo?

I was at the Expo Center in April, so I can answer questions about that too. In the same sea of parking lots that the expo center is in there is a chain restaurant called Max and Erma's which I hear has very good Chocolate Chip Cookies, but I don't know about the food.

This would have to be scheduled the same weekend as free amusement park weekend...

So I'll pretend Scooby Doo is Paul and Frankenstein is Graham, and I'll scream YAHTZEE! as i careen around the rails of the Rebel Yell roller coaster(backwards edition)

And if your cheesesteak choices are between Gino's and Pat's King Of Steaks...go somewhere else. They're both pretty much tourist traps at this point.

Yeah driving around Philly SUCKS BALLS! especially if its anywhere near rush hour. My mom gets to drive into Philly every Monday with my brother around 5 pm and a trip that usually take 45 min. takes about 3 hours.... So if you plan on driving, remember to leave with lots of time for transit

I'm sad I am now at school in pittsburgh, which is in the same state, but it takes about 5 hours to get to philly, which is why I usually fly home. So yeah have fun at the Philly airport...
Hello world, remember me? I'm the sad little fuck that you failed to see, who you should have recognized When you had the chance. Hello motherfuckers now its time to dance

Hey Graham don't forget to bring that jar of Branston Pickle to get signed by Yahtzee.
Also I'm reading that date on the jar isn't necessarily the expiry date, seems it should last for years like most preserved foods do. ISC Branston Pickle/Cadbury Cream Egg shake?

Better yet, incorporate him into cH a la Wil Wheaton. However, I'm sure you've already thought of that. Right?

In suburban Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all rollin some D20s outside of the school
When a couple of colleges
Who weren't quite as good
Were all that there was in my neighborhood*
I got into a good school and they gave me some money
I said 'I'm movin' 753 miles away to Chicago'

*Except for UPenn but I'd never go there
