Epic North American Meetup Thread

This thread is specifically for planning a meetup in Summer 2010. Rather than the regional meetups or the convention meetups, this one would be for everyone who can make it on the continent. This should be enough notice to make plans and such if necessary.

Let's figure this out.

Stage One: Location.

We need a location that is central/wondrous enough to go out of the way for.We also need to decide if we are continuing from the "Campout" idea from the Old World Blog thread, or if we are doing something different.

I have no recommendations for location at this time.

how about at a convention in the summer?

The idea is to do it somewhere other than a convention. This is meant to be focused on LRR rather than focused on people who happen to choose to go to a particular convention.

There is about a 10% chance I could make it to this, depending on where and when it happens. Which is infinitely better than the 0% chance where I am right now. I just need to get a co-op placement somewhere outside of this hell-hole, hopefully close to wherever this happens to be.

Well, upstate New York has camping, but so does like every state/province in the continent. Let's see Arius is in Florida, I'm in New York, and Tom Brend is in Massachusetts. We should all goto Wyoming.

Well if you want any crewmembers to attend, I'm thinking it would have to be a bit further west.

I'd think the Central Northern US would be a good compromise for all sides. So we're not neglecting a coast.

So Minnesota or North Dakota would be a good bet.

Also, I was joking about camping.

Well, what is there to do in Minnesota, Wyoming, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, Idaho, or the Dakotas? That would be the deciding factor in what is a good idea to set up this trip.

Well, even though it was a joke, an exponentially large camping trip wouldn't be unreasonable. Just would need to make sure people would actually want to. And it would be something different than a normal internet random meetup. Plus, cheaper since you don't need a hotel room.

Or, we could rent out a banquet hall and just have a massive party. Or a LAN party.

Or, we could see if anyone on the forums lives in that area. Do any of you people?

We could potentially make a weekend of it. Friday night through Sunday night. Giving people who have to travel more worth for their effort.

If we do a theme park, the problem is expenses. I live in FL, so I get a discount, but I'm not sure if I can use it to cover 90 people.
