How do you prefer you crazy news Phailhaüs vs Whatever Thing

The Whatever Thing was a small series starring Graham and Morgan in which one (Usually Morgan) would read wacky news stories while the other would give comedic reaction. Episodes began with a fan submitted intro involving the word "Whatever" and ended with a fan submitted Haiku. However, certain episodes threw this formula to the wayside and took on a more "two idiots with a camera" approach. This unpredictable formula provide such greats as Man Cooking, Keytar Hero, and the hugely underrated Computer Envy. Sadly, this astounding series was discontinued due to Morgans hatred of editing, not to mention a small touch of laziness. It ran from October 27, 2006 to November 5, 2007.

Phailhaüs is seen as the spiritual successor to The Whatever Thing and is hosted by Graham. It retains the wacky news story comedic retort format that was so popular in The Whatever Thing. Graham is generally accompanied by one or more guests who provide opinion on the so called "Phunny Stories". (The PH -> F is a running gag) Episodes begin with Graham using the word Phailhaüs in a ridiculous sentence and end with a "Pic of the day" often submitted by a fan, a "Word of the Day" which Graham and his subsequent guests define incorrectly, and final a "Day of the Day" which is a little known holiday that has happened to land on the day of recording. Phailhaüs began on February 1, 2008 and continues to this day.

I miss the intros and haikus. And Morgan. Graham does great and all, but those three factors are sorely missed.

Honestly, I've pretty much stopped watching Phailhaus. It's fine and all, but it just hasn't lived up to the Whatever Thing.

I like both very much but The Whatever Thing still tops out the comparison. It was a bit more unpredictable & I miss the occasional format-breaking episode. Phailhaus remains true to its original format, has a lot more guests & tends to be a bit faster paced with the news articles, but has %100 less Morgan. There are also a few too many ____-of-the-days, & at times it tries a little too hard to be clever.

Strike against both: neither has been been included on DVD

I'm going with the phail. Newb that I am, I wasn't around to see the Whatever thign develop, but it seems to me to be basically "Morgan prats around with a camera". Whilst that's highly entertaining, the Phail just seems more polished.

A little of that, but I still vastly prefer the phailhaus. It typically feels much more like a hilarious conversation than a setup news bit. Also, Graham has much better delivery on reading the stories than Morgan does.

And really, I'm ok with them tossing jokes back and forth, because the straight/foil thing is good, but gets old by the end of the video (plus they can still use that format in the 'haus).

The Phailhaus got me into LRR, but looking through the archives I really think that TWT was superior, for much the same reasons as have already been said here. Phailhaus is often Graham on his own, or at least being both straight man and comedic foil, whereas TWT worked better because of the common presence of the both of them.

I find them to be essentially the same, save for lack of Morgan. Though the lack of Morgan definitely has an effect, Graham and guests have become better at the process over time and I find that Phailhaus is a better product as a result.

As funny news, I prefer Phailhaus. But, I liked The Whatever Thing for all of the other weird, random crap that would occasionally pop up. So, I really don't think I can truly pick one over the other.

I voted similarly, and although your suggestion is admirable, Party Hard cinched it for me.

It had - in my personal and totally unprofessional opinion - the best intro, the best haiku, some of the best stories ("♫Profs on film...profs on film♫", "♫Let's boot'er in the coot/let's boot'er in the coot...♫") and gave us this:

I personally find the Whatever Thing to be so much more memorable. It has had such a lasting impression, and it feels a lot more like LRR's comedy style.
