Generally, things like that don't fly in America for long. Let's hope this one dies an ignominious death.
Re: Secret copyright treaty leaks. It's bad. Very bad.
if it's the "whole world" adopting the US system... which i doubt... it doesn't seem that bad. US Copyright laws are a bit...aggressive, but nothing compared to some EU nations.
However, I think the whole thing is bogus. The world's copyright laws are conflicted and scattered for a reason. They're not going to suddenly come to an agreement behind closed doors and not have anyone, at all, find out what's going on.
If it goes into affect... fight it. Until there's actual evidence of it being acted on, I'm assuming it's pretty language that won't actually change anything.

I hope you're right and this turns out to be nothing. It could be very bad otherwise.

eh, probably nothing. If it is something, though, rest assured there will be erm.... "vocal"... protests.

Obama is in Madison for the next few hours. Should I go give him a talking to?

I don't see anything that could possibly go wrong with that....

Re: Secret copyright treaty leaks. It's bad. Very bad.
The whole "The whole world must comply to American style..." bit strikes me a bit fake. Bush tried saying that to Harper when this shit came out last time, and our prime minister basically spent his time when Bush was in office balls deep and choking on it to do whatever Dubya wanted. Didn't happen then. I don't believe the article to be honest - it doesn't sound like Obama, and as much as America may think it runs the world it neither has the capability or, I would think inclination to impose such a decree.

We do run the world... When China gives us money to do so. And when the UN agrees with our views. And when it doesn't go outside of our (or middle eastern) borders.
See?
See?

"That the whole world must adopt US-style..."
and then I broke out in hysterical laughter.

You make it sound like the UN actually does stuff. Lol.

It's not that they don't do anything. It's that they never manage to fix anything.

The "Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement" has a stowaway; what has been leaked has NOTHING to do with stopping counterfeiting.
from Michael Geist's blog mentioned by Sachiel:
Sigh. At best, it's scaremongering by 'our' side.

These provisions involve copyright policy as no reasonable definition of counterfeiting would include these kinds of provisions.

It seems like nonsense.

Oh, I'm fully prepared for this to be revealed as fake. But if it is real, it is terrifying. It ignores the core tenet of the American legal system: that you are innocent until proven guilty IN A COURT OF LAW.
