Re: Yet another Desert Bus 3 Thread Moonbase Visitors!
I expected to spend most of desert bus sleeping during the day, and hanging out with the driver's at night again this year.
Can't wait for the hijinx again.

Re: Yet another Desert Bus 3 Thread Moonbase Visitors!
One of these days, circumstances will work with me and I'll be able to come up and be trebucheted into eternal glory.
Sadly, my current temporal and physical positions prevents me making it in time, which is a smirk-worthy irony. Still, the costs are just too high for the payoff. I do not take my travels through time and space lightly. Even when I have the actual needed energy and resources to spare, the associated risks and costs of the journey itself necessitate tactical and sparing usage.

I recommend a sleeping bag, if you have one (I am low on sheets). If it's too much of a pain to carry on the plane, that's cool, we'll figure something out.

I'll see what I can do, tho' it may be cheaper to buy one there rather than pay extra baggage fees both ways.
To keep from stinking up the Moonbase for too long I may see about visiting some Victoria based forumites.
Edit:
Oh wait. My own sheets would take up less space.

I'd consider coming down... er, up to the moonbase, But it would be a bit too weird in my mind for some reason. I mean, I've gone to Spain and England and visited with people I only know online. But ... yeah, I'm not sure.
Isn't it a bit weird for the crew as well?
I could bring some freshly made challah... Hm.
My mind is wandering now...

No worries, if the plan of James and Fuzzyfreaker making out goes well you'll be converted in notime.

And you know what? After seeing pics of Pjotrman and you (Tinasaur), I'm convinced 100% of the population of Sweden has a mohawk.

Sadly not but I have sent in an extensive proposal about this to the government. They should receive it soon enough and take it into consideration. On another unrelated subject, there have been a lot of black vans parked outside the house lately, and I have a strange feeling I'm being watched. >.>

How do you actually bid on things during the DB auction?
Just struck me that I have no ides.

in regards to being low on sheets, I appear to have kidnapped a set of your linnens in the exodus. I will return them to you when I am able.

Last year people just put their bids into the chat, the crew would read off the highest bid, and after bids stopped coming in, the item would be sold. The winner would then make their donation, and if they failed to do so (in the case of joke bids), another auction would be held to sell the item again.

Next year I will be on hand to keep the crew entertained/fed. This year all I can do is punish myself physically for 8 hours in order to help drum up donations. Hence The Desert Bus For Hope Death March. Follow me on twitter as I spend 8 hours walking with a DBFH banner. Offer challenges and make threats, donate cash to make me spend the next five blocks doing the Thriller dance!

So yeah me and apparently only one friend who is sorta familiar with LRR will be there for the first midnight shift and will probably bring Timbits and some kind of Veggie Platter and a Bacon Tart if we have time, I'll be that one Asian guy that people won't know.
Re: Yet another Desert Bus 3 Thread Moonbase Visitors!
We've had a lot of interest in people coming to hang out, and many, many emails saying "Hey I'm coming by for the weekend!" or "I'll be there all day Sunday!".
So here's the deal.
We have a limited amount of space, and only one bathroom, so we really need to formalize visiting a little bit. Unless we've asked you to come by, please limit your visit to around 4 hours max (ie: 1 driver shift). This is flexible if things are quiet, but during peak hours we can't handle 20 people we don't personally know hanging around the office.
It's crowded, it's loud, and it means that the feed can't hear what's happening because everyone is talking. Getting a room full of small conversations to be quiet so I can address the feed is the one thing that nearly sent me postal last year.
If you come, be respectful of the feed, and listen to the crew.
If there's too many people, and you've been there a while, we'll have to ask you to leave and come back later.
What I said before still stands, you need to contact us before you come down, while we're running. Not three days before.
We need to be able to gauge how busy it is before we say, "Sure, come on by!"
We have a schedule of guests coming by and calling in, and we simply can't have a ton of people in there while that's happening.
We want to hang out with you, and we really appreciate that you want to come by, but we need to make sure it's manageable and orderly so everyone on the live feed has as good a time as you do.
Thanks!

Oh totally! There's ample opportunity for folks to hang out with one another, but there's only so much physical space in the Moonbase, right?

Re: Yet another Desert Bus 3 Thread Moonbase Visitors!
Any of the first day visitors up for a dinner or something then?
Re: Yet another Desert Bus 3 Thread Moonbase Visitors!
Exactly! Stuff like that is awesome.
I, of course, will be occupied, but that's a great idea.

For some reason, I pictured you saying that in a British accent with a monocle.
---
I'd think the whole "not expecting to be with the crew the entire time" thing would have been implied if not assumed. But understandable to have to spell it out. Some people might pull a Tim.

Re: Yet another Desert Bus 3 Thread Moonbase Visitors!
Of course, there is one thing that I would suggest, but I figure the visitors would do it anyway. If you've been there for a while and it's starting to get crowded, offer to make an X run of some sort. If it seems like the crew is getting a lot of food and starting to run low on plates, trash bags, etc, offer to make the run to the store for them. That should alleviate the stress a little bit, and plus it will give you something productive to do.
