Thanks for the guide, this whole IRC thing was pretty confusing last time I tried it :)

I'm still using a separate client. Albeit, it's Chatzilla, but still...

So I've made a good few attempts to get in now and it just isn't working for me. I've followed all the steps to the letter but the connection keeps failing because it times out. Is this something I can fix or get around somehow? I wouldn't discount the possibility that it's just due to the fact that the internet in uni halls of residence is terrible, but I hope not because I want to get in and I can hardly go all the way home just to spend several days in my bedroom stealing all the internet.

Not an expert by far, but as I recall from other people's problems, uni internets are prime suspects of blocking IRC sites. You'll have to talk to someone else about workarounds.

Well, thanks for that anyway. If anyone can tell me how to get past my evil uni's blocks I'd be quite grateful.

I suggest using the mibbet web interface (http://desertbus.org/window_irc.php), as it goes over the http port, it should work.

Thanks, I'll try that. Do I need to actually register a name first for it? It asks for a password but I haven't exactly got one.

*Edited: Never mind, I see it works without one. Thanks loads!*

registering a password is so your username will be reserved just for you.

I've tried using the mibbet interface, but it's not letting me on.
I keep getting this error:
"Closing Link: [78.129.202.38] (Throttled: Reconnecting too fast) -Email [email protected] for more information."

EDIT: OH I think I got it working.

EDIT2: Oh no, I didn't. It just gives me a random name.

EDIT3: OK! I got it to work now and am D_W in the chat.

I might as well ask right now where the alternate IRC chat will be for forumites? Because, for serious.

prolly the normal LRR chat on arg-irc.net

I'm getting a "socket error" that keeps disconnecting me from the DB server.

Edit for clarity: I'm talking about irc.arg-irc.net #loadingreadyrun

Just as any FYI for anyone looking to join, it IS NOT the DesertBus chat. We're all watching, but no one involved with DesertBus or LRR in general is there or paying attention. Again: NO ONE at DesertBus is monitoring the room. If you want to participate in that chat, you need to go to irc.desertbus.org #desertbus

Not trying to discourage anyone, but we've had a couple people wander in confused.

What happened to BidBot while I was sleeping? Are they not giving voice to new arrivals anymore?

During the first live auction, bid_bot freezed up, lagged several minutes behind, called "calling once" on its own, then self-destructed and quit. Tyranic-Moron is working on fixing it. In the mean-time, they're doing it old-school.

The chat on the LIVE screen keeps freezing for me, so I'm trying to use mIRC again. How do I register it so I can bid on things etc?

That's pretty much me too. Someone also needs to revive the thread with instructions on how to get into the LRR IRC as well.

Hmm. Someone else may want to update this (or at least the title) for DB6.
