The Desert Bus Roundup

Postby Alterran » 26 Nov 2009, 09:50

So, as DBFH 2009 comes to a frankly bonkers close. What were your thoughts on the whole thing? This addressed to both LRR Crew and Forum members alike. I appreciate that there is of course the email address to send feedback to ([email protected]), but it would be nice to just discuss in the public forum any issues etc that may have been realized or brought up during the course of DesertBus '09.

So; I think the universal response has been fantabulous. The crews setup this year is the best yet, the viewers contributions has been damned crazy and yet so awesome. Words do not describe how some of the events have left me in my chair with my mouth open going 'WHAAAT!?'.

The one or two issues I've had:

The chat is awesome....if you're in it. Granted there are of course some who can't get in due to network restrictions. I myself am stuck behind a very sucky University Network block. So it would be nice if there was something like an email address where comments and challenges could be sent.

I think I had something else earlier, probably very minor, but I have forgotten it....damn.

EDIT: Oh god i remembered when i hit the 'Submit' button.

Is desert bus (as in the game) getting too easy? My suggestion would be Bill needs to drive more, keep everyone on their toes ;)

Still what did everybody else think? Favorite moments? (Hint: Matt's Gay Bar)

Favourite moment? The fact I woke up and had the Gay Bar in my face RIGHT AWAY really creeps me out, but it still is the best moment for me.

I missed it the first year and didn't see much last year so this has been the year I enjoyed the most

I am new here, but have been watching your videos for a year. Desert bus was awesome. I must say that the auctions were thouroughly enjoyable and of course, Matt and Gay bar. Billy May's as a zombie was a complete epic win, excellent way to wake up in the morning.

But there are still 10 minutes left. Something awesome could still happen! I can give a roundup until it's actually over. And maybe I've had some sleep.

But it was awesome, I can say that. I've been waiting for this for months and this totally exceeded expectations yet again.

There's no way to pick just one moment. But "The Final Busdown" actually did bring a small tear to my eye. It was just...so perfect, despite the Busdown/Countdown fail.

I love you mother bussers.

So many new people, the new deal and all that money.

I kept my laptop on a chair right next to my bed with the Desert Bus stream playing whenever I went to sleep. Earlier this morning I started having a dream with "Blue" by Eiffel 6 playing in it. When I woke up, that's the exact song they were singing on the drivercam. STOP INVADING MY SUBCONSCIOUS LRR

Heh at one point a fell asleep while watching the feed. In the time I slept, Matt did Gay Bar. When I woke up and found out, I felt violated.

Truly epic this year. If Desert Bus 3 was a girl, I'd marry her.

I need some sleep, some time to think through the awesomness, some ideas to send along to feedback@ and my download cap to reset from 105% to 0 :/ ...

Let me get it out of my system first... "WOOOOOOOOHHHHH!!"

Great Finish. I got some great screen caps which I may put up later if anyones interested.

I genuinely and throughly enjoyed watching the guys throughout. Chat interaction was fun. Alex breaking down at the end was fun (The Slowpoke breaking news thing had me laughing out loud). Gay Bar, Octopimps auctions, Matt reading out my fan-fic, CIVBrad, Getting a lot of people to say Fish Spy. Too much stuff happened that made me really happy to have been able to tune in and watch for quite a large proportion of this year.

I'm still half-intending to do Desert Bus 2010 Watch Along from Start to Finish that's how much I enjoyed watching this years.

Now its over, I feel kinda sad...

ROSCO BUS IT I MISSED THE ENDING. GAH. (Because I was stitching together a Desert Bus credits video. I'll send it to LRRMon.)

Oh well. Still! 132K is nothing to sneeze at.

Personally, I think a special channel (communication channel, not IRC channel) for challenges would be appreciated. I sent a request for the Crew to sing Ankh-Morpork's national anthem, but I didn't get a response before I went to bed.

This was my first ever desert bus. Now that I can no longer watch the crew suffer daily, I feel empty...Oh back to that think everyone calls, 'life' =P

I know it kind of sucks because it likely means additional costs... but I really think that DesertBus has outgrown ustream. I don't know how many other people suffered from this, but I had to periodically restart my browser, and in extreme cases (at work, where my computer is really crappy) I had to reboot my whole system, on more than one occasion. Also, the chat was really messed up a lot of times, and it became almost impossible to talk at the crew. Also, the PM system doesn't seem to work effectively anymore, I think the volume is just too high at this point. These are all really positive problems to be honest XD

I think the TV setup the crew had for watching the chat was an AWESOME idea and worked relatively well (when the chat wasn't flooding with comments). The organization of the event this year was AMAZING. Kathleen, Tally, Jer, you guys were insane with how much work you put into keeping things running. Alex and Paul, the backend tech work was great too! I loved the HUD and animation. The auctions were really well run.

Finally, you guys did all of this, and despite all the fake bids and frustrations, you all kept your tempers REALLY well, which frankly I'm not even sure I could have done in your places. Some of you ran 24 hours straight or longer.

Thanks for the memories guys, I'm looking forward to 2010's DesertBus.

P.S. Please announce the Matt-Twilight movie challenge as soon as possible, so everyone can begin preparing for it!

The ending with The Final Busdown was amazing. So was the amount of money raised. It's hard to believe it's over again.

While I have watched the videos for a while now, today for the last 4-6 hours is the only time i've sat down to watch desert bus.

I will most definitely be attending the chat next year.

I also need to start posting here more, I signed up after the first episode of commodorehustle and didn't say anything after that. Hell I can't even remember what my avatar is.

Edit:
Oh, it's that.

Yeah Digital Dolphin, I had to restart several times as well. I even got a litte frusterated to the point where I forgot that "To boot a computer" is not something one does literally.

a lot of awesome this year (I saw the second DBFH), and I can't really say something about the awesome stuff that haven't been said already.

I had an issue with the chat; there was just TOO much happening in there so it was almost impossible to keep up with. But I don't think there is anything that can be done about that really, I mean the more people the better right?

While I'm still a bit sceptic about the escapist thing (but that's just my opinion; screw it) I'm guessing it'll be alright.

Oh, you need to turn the camera up on it's side so that Bill will fit on frame :).

don't know what more to say. The awesomeness outweigh the few bad things.

I'll dream of Kathleen doing caramelldansen tonight (not in a creepy way or whatever, it's just that I've seen it that often over the last few days (which is awesome) that I won't be able to forget it soon...).

IF Desertbus had made a dollar for everytime someone mentioned CaramellaDansen in the chat, they'd have broken $200k...

I had the odd issue where I hate to refresh Ustream, but nothing as extreme as having to reboot. That may just be down to the individual PC. Oh well.

You people are just so goddamn excellent and that's an understatement.
