LRR on IRC

Postby James » 28 Nov 2009, 01:18

So after the crazy that was Desert Bus our good friend Kroze contacted me and suggested I put the LRR IRC channel front and center so more awesome people like your selfs can come join in the fun and keep the spirit of Desert Bus alive (or at least the chat aspect) for all time :P So without further ado I present Kroze who basically just stole this from Alex's original post many moons ago. Kroze is lazy :)

------------------------------------

Howdy, everyone! For your chatting and discussion needs, we've opened up an irc chat channel. It's very lightly moderated, so just treat it like the forums. Oh, and so far we have only one real rule to stand by, and that is to keep heated debates out of the channel, to be carried out elsewhere. Unless its about which is better, Star Trek or Star Wars... those are funny to watch since anyone with half a brain knows Stargate (and sometimes Doctor Who) is where its really at!

Your moderators for the chat are as follows:
Kroze
Asellus
TomBrend

Thanks!

For those of you new to IRC, download the client and grab some support:

Windows users: http://www.mirc.com
Mac users: http://www.colloquy.com/

Connect to:

irc.arg-irc.net

Port 6667

#loadingreadyrun

You can also use the mibbit web client which allows you to chat right from this very browser window:
Click HERE to enter the LRR Chat

--------------------------------

So there you have it. Come one, come all and enjoy your time in our IRC channel. I promise to do my best to keep myself in there as often as possible. Feel free to say hi or send me a PM, I promise I will respond at some point. And I will do my best to get the other guys in there as well.

jtaylor's mibbit skin is amazing. Just saying.

Also James thanks for calling attention to the IRC, we were dying out for a while. We got a pretty huge influx from DB, the channel is pretty loud now.

I cant seem to get mibbit to let me stay in my Registered Nickname. If i can IRC in a browser, i can totally check it during L4D:2, which is dangerously appealing =D

Vaughn, are you logging in by using commands or by using mibbit's little dialogs? Mibbit's dialogs are wicked useless, you should try using

Code: Select all

Yeah, it was different on the Ustream servers. I'm starting to remember the general IRC rules of stuffs.

I still cant find the options to autojoin certain channels, or run certain commands when i start it up.

Unrelated: i WISH i was surprised at how fast live, unsupervised chat degrades into religious jibbering.

I'm not sure what you mean by that but the easiest way to join is just click here, type in a nickname & click "Connect."

Why is that funny? I don't see anything remotely funny about that line.

I think it's because that's the guy who nearly got banned because he kept making completely inane topics.

I'm getting a problem that I cannot connect to the host.

I'm using Pidgin as my IRC client, and was able to go into the room for a few days now, but now I can't rejoin the room. :/

Mibbit works just fine, but it doesn't like my Pidgin client anymore. Anyone know what the problem could be?

Are you behind a university firewall? If so, that's the problem. Some universities (for one bullshit reason or another) block the port IRC goes over. Mibbit still works because it's basically a proxy with an HTML front-end. If you want Pidgen to work, you're going to need to find a proxy server to go through.

It worked before. Would the university firewall allow it at first then block it?

For those currently having connection problems: You'll have to change the host to cthulhu.arg-irc.net
Mibbit updates it automatically.
