Re: The GIFer Has Awakened...
Can someone do a quick gif of the small dance scene from Nightflight To Venus? I really want to post it in the Venus thread, cause... well, I wanna. >_>

I assume you mean this.
Fortunately I made it a while ago for the wiki, otherwise I might have forgotten about this.

That explains why I couldn't find it here. Thanks.

Re: The GIFer Has Awakened...
So I made these cuz I thought the video was pretty cool.
And, of course, the slow motion looks better in the video.

I don't usually toot my own gif-fodder, but does the Jonny 4 sunglasses gag work for a "Deal With It" gif?

So very tempted to try that myself... feel like that would be a bad idea though.

We have top men working on it.

Re: The GIFer Has Awakened...
And those top men have hit snags.
1) The Escapist. I need a copy of the video file. They won't let me have one without paying them money. Maybe you could give me a copy? *wink wink*
2) Parameters. I've gone over the segment I assume you're referencing, where he removes one pair of sunglasses to reveal another, but how would you like the gif to be structured? Cut loop? Reverse loop? Fade to black and loop? Any other details the gif should capture? Text overlay ala subtitles? Size? Letterboxing?
Other than that, feels good to be on the job again.

Re: The GIFer Has Awakened...
Hey, Alja. I could potentially send you something. Sending the whole file seems like a bad idea (for me, cuz of all dem megs), but I could send a segment in a .gif. It would ruin the quality, potentially, but I would just feel weird sending the video itself.

I know a way to download the low-res version of the video from the escapist, but I can't look into it right now (at work).

Re: The GIFer Has Awakened...
Is this the method you mean?
Lawman wrote:I've been downloading Escapist videos for a good year now. I use a bit of web developer know-how. Personally I use Safari, but I'm sure it works with the others browsers as well. You might have to tweak the procedure a bit.
First, click on the "Embed" button below the video, and look at the "Object Tag" code. You'll see it says something like:Code: Select all
<embed src="http://cdn2.themis-media.com/media/global/movies/player/flowplayer.commercial-3.1.5.swf" flashvars="config=http://www.themis-media.com/videos/config/1383-84e75bbc15b3cd374c09befb8d753a80.js%3Fembed%3D1"...
and this is followed by more stuff. Look for where it says 'flashvars="config=' and directly after that is a link to a javascript file which contains all the info you need.
So, you would copy from the "http://" to the ".js", i.e.:Code: Select all
http://www.themis-media.com/videos/config/1383-84e75bbc15b3cd374c09befb8d753a80.js
and paste that back into your browser's URL bar. If you have a good browser, it'll just show you its context as lain text. Else it will ask you to save the file, which I guess you could do, and then open it on your computer.
When you see the contents of the file, you'll see something like this:Code: Select all
{'playlist':[{'url':'http://cdn2.themis-media.com/media/global/images/castfire/gallery_splash/123.jpg','scaling':'fit'},{'url':'http://video.themis-media.com/mp4/escapist/loadingreadyrun/1383-36f5ba16e0b055b1bc4571f8d73b2ca1.mp4','autoPlay':false,'autoBuffering':false,'LR_VIDEO_ID':'1383','scaling':'fit'}]...
and a bunch more things yet again. This time, look for where it says ".mp4" and copy the whole of that URL. That's the direct link to the video.
Safari has a neat feature whereby if you open the "Downloads" window and paste a URL into it, it'll download that URL for you. This is useful when on some pages it doesn't let you save stuff. I don't know if Firefox or IE have a similar thing going on.
So I download the video, and that's it.
It's a rather convoluted process, but once you've done it for a bit, and get used to where all the things are that you have to select, it takes no time at all. Maybe 15 seconds.

Re: The GIFer Has Awakened...
I use a little add-in to Firefox called Live HTTP Headers. Set it to catch any requests, find the line that starts with #Request# GET then an address ending in a video extension and copy the URL. Directly open that and use whatever program you prefer to download the file.

If I remember what you're talking about, I made this one a while ago? Is it satisfactory?

Re: The GIFer Has Awakened...
Will this suffice?
Obviously it's too big, but it'll scale.
Edit: Actually, that didn't scale well at all. Hmm...
Edit Deux: Here we go. Can't read the text, but...

I tried making a full-size version, but it ended up being too big for all the different image-hosting sites I tried...
