Re: The thread of win
Yeah, it dropped below 20c last night - and here it is 8am and just 16c!
It's supposed to be light showers this afternoon, and persist until tomorrow morning (but total of less than 1mm, so plants won't get much succor).
Hurricane Bertha seems to be bringing the relief - the dregs should reach here sometime on Thursday, and we're gonna have rain for several days thereafter; provided the trees aren't ripped out of the ground, they'll look all green and lively again afterwards!

So, Friday through Sunday... I met some folks... You might've heard of them.

My softball team went to the Provincials this long weekend and WON GOLD!!!
9 games, boiling sun, 5 team injuries, muscles so tired I could barely walk today...
all for this...
Gold baby Gold!
Just about the best feeling ever.

CON-FUCKING-GRATS, TAPIR!!!
The weather was good enough for the races to go ahead! This means today is the holiday, and tomorrow (when I get paid) the stores will actually be open.
Oh, and checking my paystub online, I found they paid me for a full 80hours the past two weeks (plus maybe 1-1.5 hrs OT I ended up helping out, staying late, etc.), despite me having to leave work early that time I had a slip and fall...

Re: The thread of win
Tapir, I am supremely jealous of your sport skills. Congratulations on the win.
Not my win, but my 5 year old walked into a store today, told the owner it was his birthday last week. The owner proceeded to hand my son an R/C Helicopter.
As for us parents? We had pay for the television we wanted. On the plus side, my new TV is 10+kg lighter than the old one and about 45cm slimmer.

Customer came to trade-in an XBOX 360 HD DVD player (20p) and 9 HD DVDs (Planet Earth, Blade Runner, Thing, Prestige, Transformers, Hulk, Black Rain, Chronicles of Riddick and Corpse Bride 1p each). I gave him £3 for it all and now I'm a proud owner of failed obsolete technology.

I know, it was just Merry talking about Empath's post. But because I clicked "View new posts", I saw those two together and thought it was quite funny.

This should also go in the relationship thread but it's a win as well:
Finally gathered the courage to tell my girlfriend that I love her and it went down well

Went to the optometrist yesterday fully expecting to leave with glasses. Turns out my vision is actually still better than 20/20 when using both eyes. So that's neat.

Re: The thread of win
Well, that's one way to fix the "problem".
In further win news, I'm now able to get paid for selling ebooks on Amazon! Just need to actually get one finished and on there now... and set up the other two sellers... wheeee.

Re: The thread of win
Welp, my random wanderings on the Internet have discovered something fortuitous:
Audible is offering The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories for FREE
Because it's Audible, these are audiobook versions and they've got a pretty big grab bag of narrators: Wil Wheaton, Dan Harmon, Tom Felton, Danny Pudi, Sean Astin, Michael Chiklis, Felicia Day, Greg Grunberg, Melissa Rauch, Ice-T, Al Yankovic and David Duchovny.
...ten hours of Salvatore's sundry short stories about everyone's favourite outcast drow.
With a cast like this reading about him, this should be pretty...interesting.
(It's a tie-in to the 40th Anniversary of D&D - the audiobooks are being offered free for 40days: Aug 12th - Sep 20th)
