Wow, now I'm glad I spent the ~70 minutes watching that last night instead of writing this stupid lit review.
George Lucas is an asshole.

Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
It was actually Cartoon Network that DMCA'd it.

Really?
I wonder why.
But my original statement still stands. I hate that guy.

Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
Maybe Cartoon network got involved because they think it's the cartoon show being uploaded. Shame really
Still I do highly respect this guy, he IS a huge fan of the original Trilogy and was probably heart broken after they released the films. He rants, and does something creative at the same time. Also I found the little side story hilarious. "I NEED YOU TO SEE IT, TO HELP ME...it's called episode 2 attack of the clones"

I wouldn't have thought you could DMCA that. Seems close enough to parody to me. Still, loved it, and glad I watched both the Star Wars ones through.

Parody of what? As far as I know, reviews are protected somewhat. But I don't know a lot about it.

Parody would be the wrong word. Still, it's not a repost or replaying of anything. And it's still up, just not on YouTube.

You can DMCA anything. In theory, I could issue a DMCA notice stuff put up by the Sony BMG account and Youtube would have to take it down. Ownership or cause has nothing to do with it, if Youtube receives a notice by any "credible" notice (that is, by an organization with a shitton of money to pay lawyers and/or lobbyists with), Youtube has to take it down, no matter what it is.

No, Youtube's flagging policy is just retarded.
Basically, you can go to any video on the website anywhere and flag it. It'll ask you why you're flagging it and you can put "copyright violation" of "whatever company you feel like." Youtube will then immediately remove the video without question and it's up to the uploader to personally contact them and prove why it's not breaking any laws.
In any case, the reviews are back up now. But they went down right as his links got to the front page of Digg and Reddit, I'm told. So he probably lost a fuckton of potential viewers.

You can DMCA anything - that's why the act is so fucking stupid - the onus is on the creator of the "infringing" material to prove that he's using it legitimately, not on the claimant to prove that the material is infringing.
so even if something is fair use (which this is, as commentary) you can DMCA it and force it to be taken down, leaving the creator of the material to contest it.

The trick is that policy is neccessary to qualify under the safe harbour provision of the DMCA.
If they didn't take it down, they could be held liable.

Indeed. And when you're Youtube and are constantly in court over lawsuits, you don't take your fucking chances.

Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
I can't tell the difference...
Problem is, that's nostalgia critics territory. NC kicks movies that are down anyways (and deserve it).
This guy is far better at knocking down movies that are popular or are held with some degree of esteem, and showing how they are really just piles of shit.
I think everyone can agree just by the title that "babies day out" is going to be toxic.

Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
I wonder how many times the people he questioned have seen The Phantom Menace... just from a statistical standpoint. I don't really disagree with any of his points, but I keep on seeing the abominal snow man from Looney Tunes (going "Which way did he go George, which way did he go?").
