What do my New Years plans and a Daniel Day-Lewis movie have in common?

Arius, you're one of the few people I know that can not only corrupt any sentence but also make it work.

I come from the near future to all those in distant timezones! I bear great news! We've made first contact with a race of insectoid aliens, only it turns out they're in an ancient, ongoing galactic war over half a cabbage patch on the planet Zhok'aaaaaaaa, and we're stuck in the middle with weaponry that is far outstripped by the technology of either side.

But hey, it's 2010, right? Can't be any worse than '09.

Don't forget Alaska!

Of course, now that Sable no longer lives there, I don't know why you'd want to remember it, but still.

Spent time chaperoning at a New Years ball, dancing with ladies and now home to bang pots and pans.

Good times. Heres to a great Twenty-Ten!

I got out of bed at 2:30 in the afternoon today, and then did absolutely nothing the rest of the day. Yay for New Years.

Watching bad horror movies and forgetting to pay the rent.

Seriously, I predicted the plot twist to Hide and Seek as soon as the girl first says "Charlie"

Why the hell does everyone scream in Dead Silence? They know the rules: Never scream.

Orphan isn't even scary. Not even psychologically. It's a drama. That's all, but they market it as a horror film. And that's the twist? What's wrong? Too afraid to have an evil kid so you have to make her turn out to be a midget? Also: JUMP SCARES DON'T WORK WHEN YOU MAKE THEM PREDICTABLE.

How I spent my first day of the new year:

I stayed up until 7AM, went to bed, got up again at 8:30.
We checked out from the hotel we partied at, I went home, cleaned my room, slept. I woke up an hour later and watched some of the Glee DVD with my parents. I came back to bed, watched YouTube videos, slept more, chatted on Facebook and the IRC, and now I'm just sitting around, probably going to back to sleep soon.

I watched the good Star Trek movies while sniping Super Mutants in DC with my AR-10. I microwaved many Ivory soaps at the same time and then watched videos of people microwaving things.

You know I saw Search for Spock and The Voyage Home the other day, and I didn't think Search for Spock was that bad. I hadn't seen them in so long, I couldn't remember them at all. But I was going into Star Trek III thinking, "It's an odd numbered one, so it's gonna suck", and it didn't imo. It wasn't as great as Khan, or as fun as Voyage Home, but I didn't dislike it.

I had an awesome New Years Eve, very eventful. :)

Walked to a mates place where 20 of my mates were. About three quarters of the way there it began to poor down rain so we rocked up drenched. (Was one hell of an entrance.)

We drank (duh) a lot, mates amp was pumping out some awesome tunes. We sat around and talked a lot, then we started dancing, then a mate of mine went off on his own and he....well, I found him crying on his own. Spent about an hour trying to comfort him about how everything would be all right.

Interestingly for me, he'd been dumped from a 2 year on-again off-again relationship, and he wasn't recovering very well as his girlfriend was there. What was interesting was that I'd been in the exact same situation, as my ex-girlfriend for 2 years+ was there and yet here I was being the one to comfort him about recovery. (I would go into more detail, but it's not here or there honestly.)

After that, drank some more, danced a lot and when people finally started to fall asleep a good mate of mine discussed a few things and then another couple of mates and I invented: "Solo Man" "Strongbow(Apple Cider) Man" and "Heinekan Boy."

Pro tip: Don't try to drink ten litres of ice-water in under five minutes. Results are not good.

We also went out for another of our infamous kebab runs, simply the best kebabs ever which ended in me hurting my hip in some unknown way, which resulted in the chilled water being more entertaining.

Overall, the best New Years Eve I've had so far, regardless of my freshly single status. :)

Edit: Got home at 8am, went to bed and woke up at 11am, just spent the day relaxing.

I walked with dear friends down softly lit streets and moonlit alleyways, danced with a mysterious masked lady, climbed onto rooftops and leapt across narrow waterways, sang slow and soft as I cooked over a stonefire, watched fireworks from a high window over the water, surmounted a few garden walls in seeking out an old neighbor, was hoisted wholesale and surprised off of a statue and tossed in a graceful arc into the sea, and so much more I can scarcely begin to describe.

The new year, despite all the previous ones I've known, has brought a renewed light to life and a chance to start fresh once more. I intend to take that chance.

I love the contrast of those two posts, it brings a certain joy to my heart.

Sounds wonderful Alja, really I too understand the emotional renewal towards life - it's fantastic to say the least.
