Spidey 4 is No More!
anyone else seen about this? good for Sam Raimi and the Cast, who have resolutely told Sony to shove it, forcing the studio into a reboot instead. Thoughts on our X-ways-to-Y ending friend's decision?

Booray!
Yeah it sucks that Spiderman is no more, but really...the 3rd one was just bad. So its good that they'll let it die instead of butchering it even more.

My thoughts are "Who cares? and why?"
~I'm probably not serious~
Oh and you can just call me Dave.
No need for the whole screen name.

I vote "hooray!" because it means everyone involved can get better jobs. Or at least, different jobs. I didn't really care after the second one, to be honest...
It's just various people talking and sometimes they do things in brackets
Re: Spidey 4 is No More!
Spider man isn't no more, it's getting a reboot.
The Studio decided against continuing with the current cast/director and I'm a little sad but at the same time no biggy.
I would have loved to see another Raimi Spider Man that he actually had control over after the abortion that was Spider Man 3. But this frees him up to theoretically move forward on the World of Warcraft movie which I am still very interested in seeing.
Only time will tell I suppose.

Awe, I just said spidey 4 was no more. I assume the reboot will start the numbering over.

I thought for sure it was Raimi's cockdickery that made it suck. At any rate, if he didn't Alan Smithee the movie, he's still responsible for it.
I'd be fine with no Raimi, but a reboot is ridiculous. We all know who Spider Man is, we don't need another origin story. (thinking back, James Franco knew exactly when to step out...)

I too hate origin stories for superhero movies. Even my mother, who for some odd reason despises comics, knows the origin stories of Superman, Spiderman, and Batman. You can introduce characters perfectly well without re-treading old ground (see: the 1989 Batman and the latest Hulk movie).

well maybe they're trying to use the opportunity to incorporate it into the Avengers continuity they are building across multiple films... or maybe not, I don't know.

Re: Spidey 4 is No More!
Okay, I feel this needs to be said.
EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT SPIDERMAN 3
Yes, it was bad. Bad in a myriad of new and exciting ways. But why do people only refer to the sub-par third movie when speculating on sequels, reboots, or where the franchise is going? Did everyone just forget that the first movie was great, and the second movie was almost note-for-note perfect? "It's good that they'll let it die without butchering it some more?" Come on, dude, are you fucking kidding me?
Let us not forget that a large part of why 3 ended up as it did was because of the studio imposing their will on the writers and director. If Raimi had not have had to shoehorn Venom's plot into the movie, who knows how it might have been? So don't go blaming the sailors who are jumping ship when it's the boat-maker who didn't check to see if it was sea-worthy.
That was a metaphor.
In the end, despite my insane rantings above, I really don't care that much because I'd rather Raimi get back to directing more fauxrror movies (I just made that term up), but it's goddamn annoying to see people only talk about how bad they thought the third installment was when on the topic of Spiderman, completely glazing over the other two.
P.S. The reboot's going to be "grittier" and "edgier." (link) Yeah, that sounds great.

If there's two things a franchise always needs more of, it's grit and edge. Also, less lighting. Darker = better.

Soon, we shall spend 8.50 to look at a black screen and listen to a radio drama...
Hollywood is officially out of ideas, and should be razed to the ground.

I maintain that Raimi allowed them to do all that just so he could get the hell off that franchise.
Good on him in my books.

I think that he definitely made the "jazz" scene as a big "fuck you" to everyone involved in making him throw Venom in. It was just too drenched in that familiar Raimi style not to be wholly his creation.

Know what's a really funny and entirely original thought? MGS4 had so many cutscenes of such extensive length, it already was a movie! Ha! Ha! Ha!

I found that scene to be the most enjoyable part of the movie, because it was just so over-the-top ridiculous you knew it was intentional, even if you didn't know what was going on behind the scenes.

Re: Spidey 4 is No More!
Sorry, Nevrmore, but I have the excuse on harping on Spider Man 3 in the sense that I didn't think Spider Man 1 or 2 were that great to begin with. To me, I just saw the trends that started small in the earlier ones blown up to huge proportions.
If it was the studio's fault, why did he try to hide the existence of Venom, who he's a fan of, so it would delight fans, but end up sloppily shoehorning him in? And whose idea was it to do Sandman?
